Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Travel Registered Nurse to join the Emergency Department team at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide critical care in a dynamic, high-acuity environment within a leading healthcare facility.

The Emergency Department is a comprehensive unit with 64 beds, including 2 Triage, 40 acute, 6 super track, 2 Trauma, 10 Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), and 6 psychiatric beds. You will care for a diverse patient population ranging from newborns to geriatrics, managing common diagnoses such as Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.

As an integral part of the ED team, you will be responsible for rapid assessment, intervention, and stabilization of critically ill and injured patients. The role requires adaptability and the ability to float to other units as needed to support patient care demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced Emergency Department setting.
• Conduct rapid assessments, implement interventions, and stabilize patients presenting with various acute conditions.
• Manage a diverse patient population across the lifespan, from newborn to geriatric.
• Respond effectively to critical situations including Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.
• Utilize specialized medical equipment such such as Rapid Infusor and Arctic Sun.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring patient responses.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record.
• Float to other units within the facility as required by staffing needs.

Required Qualifications

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in an Emergency Department (ED) setting.
• Demonstrated prior pediatric (PEDS) patient care experience.
• Previous travel nursing experience is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience and capability in a Charge Nurse role.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, specifically EPIC.
• Expertise in managing critical patient conditions including Stroke, Sepsis, Trauma, Myocardial Infarction (MI), Cardiac Arrest, and Respiratory Failure.
• Competency in operating specialized equipment such as Rapid Infusor and Arctic Sun.
• Ability to provide comprehensive care for patients across all age groups: Newborn, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing patient conditions and unit demands.

• Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York (NY).
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (required to be in hand).
