Job Title: CNC Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components under minimal supervision. You will generate and edit CNC programs, perform complex setups and tool changes, and verify part conformity using appropriate inspection methods while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized production environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes and CNC mills, handling both simple and complex machining operations under minimal supervision.

• Prepare machines for production by selecting, installing, and changing tools such as inserts, drills, and mills as required by each job.

• Generate CNC programs using CAM programming software, applying thorough knowledge of cutting feeds, speeds, and appropriate tooling.

• Perform programming edits directly at the machine or through CAM software to optimize cycle times, improve quality, and resolve machining issues.

• Verify program changes and part accuracy using appropriate inspection and measuring methods to ensure parts meet specifications.

• Interpret and work from blueprints and written instructions in English to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.

• Use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and confirm dimensional accuracy throughout the machining process.

• Apply knowledge of G-codes and CNC controls to troubleshoot and adjust programs and machine parameters as needed.

• Perform machine set up for different jobs, including workholding, zeroing, and verifying tooling offsets.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in all production zones by following 5S principles.

• Work assigned weekend and weekday shifts as required, including operating lathes and mills and performing necessary setups.

• Collaborate with team members and leadership to ensure production schedules are met and quality standards are consistently achieved.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.

• 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as a Level 2 CNC machinist, or 5 or more years of demonstrated experience as a Level 3 CNC machinist.

• Hands-on experience writing CNC programs in a machining environment.

• Proficiency operating and setting up CNC lathes and CNC mills.

• Ability to generate CNC programs using CAM programming software.

• Ability to program using Mastercam software.

• Working knowledge of CAD and CAM software.

• Strong understanding of cutting feeds and speeds and tool composition and application.

• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and blueprints in English.

• Ability to work with G-codes and CNC control programming.

• Proficiency using measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.

• Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Aerospace machining experience is preferred.

• Experience using CAD software in support of CNC programming.

• Experience using a variety of measuring tools beyond calipers and micrometers for inspection.

• Familiarity with 5S or similar continuous improvement and workplace organization methodologies.

• Comfort working on weekend shifts and later-day schedules as needed.

Work Environment

This position is based in an indoor manufacturing facility located in Phoenix. The role involves working on CNC lathes and mills using CAD/CAM and Mastercam software, as well as standard measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers. There are two different shifts, 1st Shift, 5:30 AM - 2 PM, Monday - Friday and 2nd Shift 2:30 PM to 1:00 AM, Monday through Thursday.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $83200.00/yr.
