Position Summary: Pump Mechanic 

Position Summary: 

This position is under the general direction of the Pump Shop Manager and is responsible for teardown, evaluation, documentation and repair of water pumps and product pumps common to irrigation, food processing and other fluid handling applications.    

Essential Duties 

• Removal, disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and evaluate malfunctioning pumps and provide inspection reports. 
• Record all data necessary to complete inspection reports, including all imperative information required to aid in the estimating and pump rebuild process. 
• Mic and make the correct assessment of bearing and seal fit tolerances. 
• Assessment of runout on rotating assemblies. 
• Bearing, shaft, seal, and mechanical seal installation. 
• Pump installation and laser alignments.  
• Assist in troubleshooting and repairing problems associated with pump or pumping equipment: mechanical components, fits, tolerances, and runouts.  
• Use measuring devices such as micrometers (inside and outside), dial indicators, calipers etc. to correctly assure proper sizing. 
• Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools including band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, end wrenches, air impacts, pullers, hydraulic press, etc.  
• Keep work area neat and clean. 
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and assist other staff as directed by supervisor or management. 

Minimum Qualifications 

Must possess at least three (3) years of previous work experience as a mechanic.  Previous work experience as a small pump mechanic preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to occasionally work long hours to complete emergency repair work and perform rotational on-call duties.  

Requires Licenses/Endorsements/Certifications  

Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a clean driving record.  Driving Abstract to be submitted with application for employment.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in mechanics. Proficiency in reading and comprehending measuring devices. Ability to be a self-starter and self-motivated. Strong problem solving and communication (written and verbal) skills.  A team player that can work well with coworkers and leads by example.  

Physical Requirements 

To perform the essential functions of the job, a Small Pump Mechanic must be able to perform the following: 

Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, walking, pulling, lifting, fine motor dexterity, grasping, and seeing/observing; ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.  Ability to work outdoors under adverse and varied weather conditions. 

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
