Maintenance Worker I

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Worker Foreman. This is a full-time hourly (non-exempt) position with all associated full time employment benefits. The Maintenance Worker Foreman is responsible for evaluating the employee skills, fluency, production, and effective working relationship in setting the rate of pay and level I through IV. The primary responsibilities of the Maintenance Worker position include but are not limited to the following: Perform manual labor and semi-skilled tasks associated with maintenance of roads, buildings, parks, public grounds and cemetery (i.e. cut/trim grass, trees, shrubs, etc,; trash/litter removal; repair/replace ditches and culverts; spread gravel, dirt, mulch, cold patch, hot mix, fill pot-holes; guardrail installation, carpentry work; basic HVAC/plumbing/electrical repairs; etc.) Operate light to heavy equipment, vehicles and tools used in the maintenance and repair of roads, buildings, parks, public grounds, and cemetery. Operate hand tools and power saws Perform culvert maintenance, repair and annual check Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment Prepares graves and maintains cemetery grounds: Locates grave site according to section, lot, and plot numbers, and marks area to be excavated. Perform repair, remodel and construction and custodial work on township buildings (cleaning, scrubbing, waxing, painting, sanding, drywall installation, brick work, etc.) Sets up and operates proper work safety zones (erect barricades; place roadway safety cones; flag traffic; etc.) Make or order and install road signs. Performs routine sign inspections Snow/ice removal by hand or by truck Assist mechanics when needed Inspect road cuts for compliance with permits Communicate with public and private contractors working in Township right-of-ways. Attend continuing education training seminars (i.e. LTAP) on roadway, buildings, park, cemetery and public grounds maintenance techniques. Familiarize with and implement maintenance “best practice”. Perform basic clerical functions (complete reports/forms, filing paperwork, etc.) Perform other duties as assigned by Service Department Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Advanced training or Associates Degree in construction technology, turf management, carpentry, road maintenance or similar field preferred. Experience Two (2) or more years’ experience in general construction. Licenses and Certifications Valid Class B State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement preferred. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Must have demonstrated skills in operation of the following, but not limited to, equipment: CB/Radio Sweeper/Polisher Basic Hand Tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench, etc.) Carpentry Tools Sprayers Bench Grinder Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with township officials, supervisory personnel, fellow employees, other township employees, and the general public Knowledge of maintenance safety procedures and practices (OSHA, LTAP, etc.) Skilled in road, building, park, and public ground maintenance techniques Demonstrated skill in light to heavy equipment and hand tool operations Knowledge of gas and diesel powered equipment Proven ability to read and understanding blue prints, manufactures instructions, warning labels, spec sheets, policy and procedure manuals, etc. Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions Ability to work effectively in teams or independently Ability to accurately maintain work records and reports Ability to work outdoors and inside in various weather and climate conditions Ability to work weekends, holidays, or overtime when necessary or as requested and approved by Director.
