Summary and Objective:

The Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level maintenance role focused primarily on preventive maintenance execution and equipment care. The objective of this role is to support overall equipment reliability and production uptime by consistently performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, inspections, tightening, and basic part replacement in accordance with established procedures. This position serves as the foundation of the maintenance career path, emphasizing safe work practices, strict adherence to SOPs, and accurate execution of assigned PM tasks while assisting higher-level technicians as needed. The role is designed to build core mechanical aptitude and develop fundamental maintenance skills in a structured manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on production and facility equipment according to established schedules and procedures.

2. Complete basic maintenance activities including lubrication, cleaning, tightening, inspections, and filter replacement.

3. Conduct visual inspections of machinery and equipment to identify wear, leaks, damage, or abnormal operating conditions.

4. Assist Maintenance Technicians II–V with repairs, troubleshooting, installations, and equipment servicing activities.

5. Perform simple component replacements such as belts, sensors, hoses, bearings, and basic motors under supervision or direction.

6. Follow all maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), preventive maintenance checklists, and safety requirements.

7. Utilize hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment safely and properly.

8. Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM documentation, and work order updates within the maintenance system or assigned logs.

9. Support machine uptime and reliability by reporting equipment abnormalities and escalating unresolved issues to higher-level technicians or supervisors.

10. Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance work areas, tools, and equipment.

11. Assist with equipment setup, teardown, and basic adjustments during production changeovers or repairs.

12. Comply with all company safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safe work practices.

13. Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.

14. Support plant operations during scheduled downtime, shutdowns, and maintenance projects as needed.

15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

§  High school diploma or GED required.

§  Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial maintenance skills.

§  Ability to safely use basic hand tools and power tools.

§  Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, SOPs, and maintenance checklists.

§  Basic understanding of workplace safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements.

§  Ability to identify obvious equipment issues or abnormal conditions and escalate concerns appropriately.

§  Strong attendance, reliability, and work ethic.

§  Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with close supervision.

§  Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment within job requirements.

§  Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

§  Prior experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, construction, automotive repair, or related mechanical work.

§  Technical school coursework or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, or related field.

§  Familiarity with conveyor systems, motors, bearings, belts, chains, pneumatic systems, or production equipment.

§  Previous experience performing preventive maintenance tasks.

§  Forklift or aerial lift experience/certification.

§  Basic computer skills for entering work orders or maintenance documentation.

§  Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however indirect supervisory responsibilities do exist and rely heavily on leadership and influential capabilities.

Physical Demands:

This position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, crouching, reaching, and working with hands and arms throughout the shift. The employee must frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier lifting performed with assistance or mechanical devices. The role requires the ability to work in awkward positions, climb ladders, and access machinery in confined or elevated spaces. Visual acuity, hearing, and manual dexterity are required to safely inspect and maintain equipment and operate maintenance tools.

Work Environment:

This position works primarily in an industrial pallet manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, conveyors, saws, forklifts, vibration, wood dust, noise, grease, oils, and varying temperatures. The employee is regularly exposed to production areas where hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, gloves, and other required PPE must be worn. Work may include indoor and outdoor conditions, overtime, shift work, and scheduled maintenance during shutdown periods. Strict adherence to all safety procedures and company policies is required at all times.

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position that will be assigned to a certain shift (I.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). Days and hours of work are normally Monday through Friday, with an 8-to-12-hour work period per day. Exact time of day depends on the assigned shift. Some overtime, night, and/or weekend work may be required.

Travel:

This position requires minimal travel.
