Job Title: Utility Field Technician

Job Description

This Utility Field Techniican position focuses on performing detailed field audits in the Houston area using specialized Katapult and IKE equipment. The role combines light fielding and design work with construction and utilities engineering knowledge to support accurate documentation and inspection of distribution poles and related power infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive field audits for distribution poles using Katapult and IKE equipment, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Use a computer or iPad to enter, review, and update field audit information in a timely and organized manner.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of poles and related utility infrastructure, following established construction and utilities engineering standards.
  • Support light fielding and design activities related to distribution and power systems as directed by project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure field data aligns with construction, construction management, and project management needs.
  • Apply basic AutoCAD skills to interpret or support design documentation associated with field audits and inspections.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and work practices while performing field work at utility and construction sites.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication regarding project status, field conditions, and any issues identified during inspections.

Essential Skills

  • Experience utilizing Katapult equipment for field audits and data collection.
  • Experience utilizing IKE equipment for field audits and data collection.
  • Light experience in fielding and design related to distribution and power systems.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad to complete and submit field audits for distribution poles.
  • Knowledge of construction and construction management principles relevant to utility field work.
  • Understanding of utilities engineering, particularly in relation to poles, distribution, and power infrastructure.
  • Ability to perform inspections of poles and associated utility structures in the field.
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD to support design and documentation tasks.

Work Environment

This role operates in a field-based environment in the Houston area, with approximately 40 hours of work per week. The position involves regular travel to outdoor utility and construction sites to inspect distribution poles and related power infrastructure, as well as time spent working on a computer or iPad to complete field audits. The work setting combines on-site field activities with office or remote documentation tasks. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
