Choose MITRE for a career with purpose — and help shape the future.Department Summary: The Pacific Regional Operations Department (N554) works with the U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) and the Military Service Components on-island to inform warfighter requirements and Concepts of Operation (CONOPS), and provides Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems acquisition, engineering, and integration support to the Department of War (DOW) and U.S. Allies in the Pacific Theater. N554 is a dynamic and forward leaning organization that provides direct connections to warfighters. These direct connections allow staff to monitor and participate in current operations and exercises. A key output of this access is the ability to inform technology innovation and capability analysis with operational domain expertise. N554 operational depth and warfighter access has generated considerable expertise in the development and analysis of CONOPS, mission threads, use cases, and operational requirements. The Department establishes links between DoW sponsors and Coalition Partner development activities. N554 is on the cutting edge of current operations and is a major thought leader in force modernization. Roles and Responsibilities: The Department is seeking to fill a Lead Experimentation Engineer position supporting MITRE’s project with USPACOM in Honolulu, Hawaii. MITRE aims to deliver quantifiable mission value and operational impact to the warfighter – primarily by accelerating technical innovation of new ideas and solutions to emerging operational problems. In general, we collaborate with acquisition stakeholders, technology innovators, operational analysts, and other mission partners to help accelerate the delivery of needed capabilities to operational and tactical level warfighters across the naval, joint, and combined force. This Lead Experimentation Engineer position will be responsible for interfacing with USPACOM, theater Service Components, and priority theater partners to define, drive, and implement more cohesive and efficient experimentation campaigns and infrastructure for the DoW and theater partners. Specifically, this position will lead, support, and facilitate multiple lines of effort across USPACOM including operationally-focused Simulated Experiments (SIMEX), modeling and simulation (M&S) sandbox approaches, partner-centric experimentation, and enabling technologies and infrastructure for theater and distributed experimentation. Specific responsibilities include: Shaping, creating, and facilitating cohesive experimentation campaign plans for USPACOM that demonstrate how operational capabilities and plans are being incrementally adapted and matured. Building and managing sponsor, MITRE, and stakeholder relationships pertaining to USPACOM experimentation. Increasing collaboration and coordination on experimentation between USPACOM, theater Service Components, and priority theater partners. Developing, with stakeholders, the resourcing strategy to rapidly develop, acquire, maintain, and transition capability into the Pacific Theater. Designing plans and infrastructure to enable distributed experimentation between MITRE’s McLean campus and USPACOM. Developing eventual transition plans/strategies for MITRE experimentation to USPACOM. Identifying opportunities to leverage Service unique experimentation to advance USPACOM priorities. Defining key metrics that can/should be utilized and measured through experimentation to quantify improvements in operational capability. Collaborating with other government, FFRDC, and MITRE experimentation leads and organizations to rapidly identify and integrate new technology into theater. Basic Qualifications: Typically, BS in a technical discipline, such as Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Computer), Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields; or a BA in International Relations, International Security, or similar fields and 8 years of experience, or a master’s degree and 6 years of experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Familiarity of the Pacific theater and applicable DoW missions and problem sets. Prior experience working day-to-day in government-controlled DoD spaces. Demonstratable knowledge of operational and developmental experimentation. Strong system-of-systems engineering experience across weapon systems and mission sets. Familiar with various DoD acquisition approaches. Prior experience with US Department of Defense systems of systems integration. Effective and influential oral communications skills. Strong written and oral communications skills. Active Top-Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of related experience; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Working knowledge of model-based systems engineering, operational analysis, and modeling & simulation. Current knowledge of emerging technology being adopted into acquisition programs and/or the USPACOM theater. Familiarity with MITRE project management processes, capabilities, and associated tools. Demonstrated capability for strategic planning and ability to provide actionable plans to government sponsors.
