Position Summary

Scholar Spark is seeking Academic Teaching Fellows to support students and faculty across six academic subject areas:

• Psychology
• Biology
• Mathematics
• Economics
• Physics/Engineering
• International Relations.

We are actively recruiting qualified candidates across all six areas. Current program needs are especially strong in Psychology, Biology, and Mathematics, though qualified applicants in Economics, Physics/Engineering, and International Relations are also encouraged to apply.

Teaching Fellows provide hands-on academic and operational support during Scholar Spark’s online programs. The role combines student-facing academic support with behind-the-scenes coordination to help sessions run smoothly, maintain strong communication, and ensure students receive timely feedback and assistance.

While Scholar Spark is recruiting across all six disciplines, we currently have particularly strong program needs in:

Key Responsibilities

• Attend assigned group sessions and be prepared to step in temporarily if the Academic Mentor is delayed or unavailable at the beginning of a session.

• Start online sessions approximately 3–5 minutes early and assist with Zoom/webinar operations, participant settings, and basic session management.

• Record student attendance and maintain accurate academic-support records.

• Grade or review group assignments and provide thoughtful written feedback within established program timelines.

• Monitor student questions through approved communication channels and respond to or help resolve questions within approximately 24 hours.

• Support professor and student evaluation processes by helping ensure feedback is clear, specific, and substantive when requested.

• Coordinate professionally with Academic Mentors, students, and Scholar Spark staff regarding academic questions, student progress, assignments, and support needs.

• Help maintain a reliable, organized, and supportive online learning environment throughout the assigned program.

Required Qualifications

• Hold a master’s degree from a university currently ranked among the U.S. News Top 50 National Universities, OR currently be pursuing a graduate degree at a university currently ranked among the U.S. News Top 50 National Universities.

• Strong academic background in at least one of the six listed subject areas.

• Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate subject-specific academic material.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Strong reliability, responsiveness, organization, and ability to meet deadlines in a remote academic environment.

• Comfort using Zoom, email, shared documents, and online learning or collaboration platforms.

• Ability to provide thoughtful student support while maintaining appropriate academic and professional boundaries.

• Comfortable supporting students academically without needing to function as the primary professor or course instructor.

• Reliable enough to support live online programming and follow through on grading, student questions, and administrative responsibilities.

• Comfortable balancing student-facing support with behind-the-scenes academic operations.

• Able to work independently while communicating proactively with Academic Mentors and Scholar Spark staff.

• Professional and composed in live online sessions and written communication.

Compensation & Engagement

Compensation may be offered up to US$400 base project fee + US$50 per assigned student, depending on the specific assignment and program needs. Final compensation and assignment details will be confirmed in writing before services begin.

This is a part-time independent-contractor engagement. Selection as an Academic Teaching Fellow does not guarantee assignment to a specific course, semester, or number of students. Assignments are based on program needs, student demand, subject fit, and availability.
