Unit Clerk BMH General Surgery Unit Full-time Days

Position Overview Unit Clerk/Receptionist – BMH General Surgery Unit – BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital.Full‑time, day shift (12‑hour, 36 hours per week). Under the supervision of Unit Leadership. Key Responsibilities Prepare and compile patient records for the nursing unit. Coordinate unit communication systems (telephone, nurse call, hospital information systems) and relay information to patients, visitors, and staff. Maintain optimal public relations and assist with supplies, equipment, and unit environment. Perform clerical duties and process equipment and staff requests related to unit needs. Respond to and manage incoming telephone calls and nurse call messages. Direct visitors to patient rooms or waiting areas, and distribute mail, newspapers, and flowers. Compile patient census, maintain records, and distribute information per unit procedures. Coordinate with charge nurse for smooth, efficient patient flow into, through, and out of the department. Record patient details, including name, address, and attending physician, for new admissions. Keep file of medical records in unit, monitor and requisition supplies as directed, and store them appropriately. Gather, input, and retrieve information using computerized systems. Transport patients and guests within the facility; assist in patient transport and safety as directed. Provide patient safety assistance (e.g., observation of unsafe behavior, communication with RN, participation in suicide precaution activities). Perform miscellaneous duties, such as passing water, providing towels, and attending to patient and family needs. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (required if hired on or after 6/1/2017). 1–3 months related experience and/or training preferred; previous healthcare experience preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Proficient in data entry and retrieval from computerized systems. Strong organizational skills with ability to maintain records and manage multiple processes simultaneously. Effective communication skills with patients, visitors, and care team. Ability to complete competency requirements for English, writing, spelling, and reading comprehension. Successful completion of hospital orientation, core orientation, and unit‑specific orientation. Physical & Work Conditions Work requires sustained standing or walking, regular lifting of light‑weight objects (≤20 lbs) and occasional heavier tasks as directed. May involve manual handling of patients, safe patient handling practices, and use of personal protective equipment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
