Care is delivered according to the established plan of care in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Nursing assessments are conducted to identify both actual and potential needs or problems to facilitate a structured and prioritized plan of care. Supervision and patient care assignments are made for other members of the nursing team based on acuity and staff proficiency. Emergency and life-threatening situations must be recognized and responded to appropriately. Documentation includes assessment, plan of care, interventions, and educational needs for each patient, as well as the patient/family response to interventions. Patient care activities are delivered according to established standards of care and practice. Administration of medications and treatments, including initiation and maintenance of IV medications, blood products, hyper-alimentation, epidural analgesia, patient-controlled analgesia, and chemotherapy is required. A safe patient and working environment must be maintained by adhering to infection control and safety policies and procedures. Physician orders should be received, documented, followed up, and evaluated for patient outcomes, ensuring that orders are executed correctly per policy.
