Bus Mechanic

Blake Bus MechanicThe Blake bus mechanic is responsible for Blake's bus maintenance program. This includes vehicle repair, preventative inspections, pre-trip inspection training, parts purchasing, service coordination with vendors and daily entry of maintenance data into the database.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Service school bus fleet with mechanical repair and replacement of partsPurchase school bus parts to adequately supply needed repairsMaintain inventory as neededCoordinate and transport school buses for repair to and from vendor locationsRecord all maintenance-related repairs and inspections of the bus fleet into Blake's maintenance systemPerform periodic inspections on buses as directedTrain and evaluate transportation team members on proper school bus pre-trip inspection procedures and techniquesProvide emergency backup bus driving services on an on-call basisOther duties as assigned by the supervisor of transportationRequired Qualifications:Strong knowledge of large diesel engine mechanics and repair techniques; experience working with school buses preferredStrong ability to align priorities and produce quality work under pressureStrong mechanical problem-solving skillsBasic computer knowledgePreferred Qualifications:Basic understanding of Minnesota school bus compliance standards—pre-inspection guidelines preferredLicensed school bus driver—MN Class B (including passenger and school bus endorsements)One to three years, CDL-qualified driving experience (school bus driving experience)Working Conditions:Indoor and outdoor work is requiredMust be able to assess situations and obtain parts for installation and/or diagnose issues requiring the bus to be taken to an approved diesel (bus) mechanicPhysical Requirements:Must be able to safely lift bus equipment and parts and get up and down from under a bus and various areas of the bus interiorDisclaimer: The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
