The Role Immediate opening for a Forensic Engineer / Structural Professional Engineer to work in our Miami, FL location. This role leads forensic investigations and expert witness testimony for construction defect claims, construction damage claims, and insurance claims, ensuring successful delivery of projects within scope, budget, and timeline. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as an expert witness and participate in depositions, mediations, or litigation as required. Perform and coordinate forensic inspections, applying technical expertise to assess project conditions and identify potential issues or deficiencies/defects. Generate comprehensive field reports detailing observations, measurements, and findings from site visits and inspections. Review and interpret drawings, codes, specifications, project manuals, and material specifications. Generate expert reports with in-depth analysis, conclusions, and recommendations based on project requirements and findings. Interpret and specify a wide range of testing, including material testing, structural analysis, and performance evaluations. Supervise testing activities and ensure accurate data collection for interpretation of results. Provide technical guidance and expertise to the team throughout design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with regulations, codes, and standards. Coordinate design, calculations, and drawings; oversee development and review of technical specifications, drawings, and construction documents. Coordinate internal kick-off, milestone, and closeout meetings for projects to foster communication and collaboration. Verify schedules and ensure adherence to project plans and timelines with internal and external resources. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections, document existing conditions, perform field testing, photograph, and create hand-sketches; record accurate field measurements and perform calculations throughout the project. Prepare written correspondence with clients and contractors, maintaining clear and professional communication. Review investigation reports, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation. Communicate project status and proactively address issues or discrepancies as they arise. Escalate unresolved issues to the direct supervisor in a timely manner. Maintain organized records, files, drawings, and other essential project data in the company’s systems for easy accessibility and future reference; collect post-project feedback and share with the supervisor. Keep up to date with job knowledge and industry trends through educational activities and professional networks. Engage in networking activities and represent the company at events, seminars, and continuing education presentations. Actively seek marketing opportunities to promote the organization in the industry (not limited to exclusive company events). Perform other duties as related to the position as assigned by the firm, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including clients, contractors, and consultants to coordinate project activities and resolve technical issues. Collaborate with legal teams and represent the firm in mediations, providing expert opinions and guidance; participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders to understand objectives and provide technical recommendations. Foster strong client relationships with effective communication and understanding of project requirements. Work closely with the team to define scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timeline to ensure project success. Mentor and support junior team members and contribute to their professional growth. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Structural/Civil Engineering. Work Experience: Four plus years in the architectural and engineering consulting industry. Must have experience as an expert witness. Licenses & Certifications: Professional Engineer license required. OSHA 10 Certification preferred. Valid United States Driver’s License required (travel to client sites). Skills: Proficient written and verbal communication; attention to detail; strong project management and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects; knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards; professional and courteous interaction with clients and colleagues; ability to attend client meetings and events; flexibility to work overtime; strong teamwork and collaboration; ability to work in the field and travel as needed; efficient time management while adhering to budgets. Salary/Compensation: Estimated salary range $90,000 to $170,000. This salary is an estimate and not guaranteed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. Height and Access: Safe operation of ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment; ability to work safely at heights. Outdoor Environment: Exposure to prolonged periods outdoors (may extend beyond 3 hours). Additional Information Ability to work in diverse weather conditions (temperatures, humidity, precipitation, wind). Mobility: Prolonged standing and walking, possibly on uneven terrain. Scheduling: May require adjusting lunch hours based on project demands.
