Surgical Technologist

Under general supervision the Surgical Technologist will assist with surgical procedures by anticipating physician needs to ensure procedures are executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible They will prepare and organize the operating room clean and sterilize equipment and maintain a clean and sterile environment Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform job in accordance with Company Mission vision and goalsAssists in bringing patients to pre op recovery and transporting for dischargeAssists patients with medical forms as necessaryExercise confidentiality in all areas abiding by HIPAA rules and regulationsAccurately completes applicable paperwork; ensuring patient medical records are complete Prepares all forms and requisitions as instructed by the providerReturns patient calls in a timely mannerCreates and maintains a positive atmosphere of customer service teamwork mutual respect professionalism and accountability Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit and confirming patient IDSets up the sterile field on the Mayo stand with instruments supplies medications and equipment needed for proceduresPerforms initial instrument sharps and sponge counts with the circulator Ensures team members patient and procedure suite are maintaining sterile fieldParticipates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedureAssists physicians with surgical scrubs and personal protective equipment PPEPrepares and anticipates additional instrumentation equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedureMaintains and improves current skills and knowledge by attending all relevant meetings classes trainings and by keeping certifications current Measures passes and holds medications hemostatic agents instruments and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedurePerforms surgical support tasks as directed by the surgeonCoordinates the camera or changes out robotic armsinstruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon Adheres to Infection Control Safety and OSHA standards as specified by State and Company standardsMaintains knowledge of and complies with State Company and any other applicable policies and proceduresIf assisting with procedures adheres to all federal state and nursing regulations and protocols including but not limited to patient safety procedures such as verification of patient identification prior to proceduresImmediately prior to the start of any procedure in the procedure room initiateparticipates in a time out and ensures correct patient procedure site and side and that there are no additional concernsIdentifies every patient with two identifiers full name and date of birthDocuments this information in the Procedure Safety Checklist including the time of the time outPerforms additional counts as necessary Prepares sterile dressings andor immobilization devices Sterilizes and cleans instruments used in examinations andor procedures; maintains clean and hygienic environmentOperates sterilizes and maintains necessary equipment including but not limited to the autoclave RFA machine etcMonitors the comfort of the patient and provides verbal and tactile reassurance to the patientAssists with positioning the patient using appropriate equipment and anatomical principles to avoid patient injury Applies the electrosurgical grounding pad Positions and prepares the patient for the procedures establishes the sterile field and drapes the patient for the proceduresSecures dressings after incision closure Assists nursing staff with obtaining and recording vital signs pregnancy tests and glucometer checks Verifies patient history information and takes detailed history when indicated Informs nursing staff and physician of resultsMakes frequent rounds on patients in pre op and recovery to provide for any other needs of the patient prior to discharge Performs daily weekly and monthly safety and equipment checksDaily reviews upcoming cases and notifies nurse of any potential issuesAssists with inventory and order supplies for all procedures in the ASC as directed Sterilizes and breaks down procedure room after each patient and ensures procedure room is cleaned prior to the beginning of a procedureMonitors personal and other applicable staff task buckets in the EMROperates sterilizes and maintains necessary equipment including but not limited to the autoclave RFA machine etcAssists the physician with use of the C Arm as directedAccurately completes and maintains all applicable records and logs ie radiation spore testing equipment medical records etcChecks work e mail on a reliable basis throughout the workdayParticipate in and complete all required trainings and in servicesPerforms other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalentMust possess and maintain a valid BLS certificationMust possess and maintain Certified Surgical Technologist CST certificationMust have excellent written and oral communication skills including exceptional customer serviceMust be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors clinical staff other co workers and the publicMust be able to work individually as well as within a teamMust be able to follow both verbal and written instructionsMust be able to work a flexible scheduleMust be able to respond with patience and understanding during stressful conditions related to patient health and emergent situationsMust be able to multi task and prioritizeMust have working knowledge of all equipment and proceduresMust demonstrate extreme attention to detailMust possess strong organization skillsMust be able to problem solve and use reasoningMust be able to meet predefined quality standardsMust maintain and project a professional attitude and appearance at all timesMust have a working knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialty as well as medical terminologyMust provide proof of influenza vaccination annuallyMust complete two 2 step PPD NE staff OR must complete an annual PPD SE staffMust complete all regulatory competencies prior to beginning work in the ASCAll staff are expected to have a strong desire to provide excellent customer service;
