Mail Ballot Sorter

Position Summary
Sorts incoming mail ballot envelopes, retrieves and moves crates, and transports ballots to the Counting Board or other designated areas while preserving ballot security, accuracy, and nonpartisan conduct.

Key Responsibilities

• Sort incoming mail ballot envelopes by assigned category, batch, route, date, precinct, status, or other County-defined criteria.
• Retrieve, move, stage, and organize crates of ballots or mail ballot materials as directed.

Transport sorted ballots to the Counting Board or designated processing area according to chain-of-custody procedures.
Check labels, counts, batch identifiers, and routing instructions carefully before moving or transferring materials.

• Identify damaged envelopes, missing labels, discrepancies, incorrect routing, or unclear instructions and escalate promptly.
• Assist with workspace organization, crate staging, batch preparation, and end-of-shift reconciliation as assigned.
• Maintain voter privacy, ballot security, confidentiality, and nonpartisan conduct throughout the sorting process.

Required Skills and Competencies
Physical stamina for 10+ hour shifts and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Attention to detail when sorting, labeling, counting, and routing ballot materials.

• Team-oriented work style and ability to maintain steady productivity during high-volume processing.
• Ability to follow procedures, work safely, and report discrepancies promptly.
• Nonpartisan conduct and respect for ballot secrecy and voter confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications and Compliance Requirements

• Valid Nevada ID or Driver's License.

Background check and drug screening required before assignment.

• Registered Clark County voter and willing to disclose political affiliation if required for the assignment.
• Must complete required mail ballot sorting, safety, and chain-of-custody training before assignment.

Schedule and Working Conditions

• May require prolonged standing, walking, lifting, bending, moving crates, and repetitive sorting tasks.
• Work may be fast-paced during peak mail ballot intake and processing windows.
• Must be available to work through the election cycle with limited requested days off.

Must be available for schedule needs that may include 8-10 hour shifts, weekends, flexible start and end times, overtime, and extended hours on specific event days, especially Election Day.

• Must remain reliable, punctual, and responsive to assignment changes during a fast-paced, deadline-driven election environment.
• Must follow County security rules, workplace policies, chain-of-custody expectations, confidentiality requirements, dress code, and professional conduct standards.

Performance Expectations

• Completes assigned work accurately, on time, and in accordance with training and County procedures.
• Maintains nonpartisan conduct, voter confidentiality, ballot security, and respectful service at all times.
• Escalates exceptions, voter issues, equipment concerns, safety concerns, and unclear instructions promptly to the designated supervisor or lead.
• Accurately documents work performed, materials handled, calls received, records updated, and/or batch activity as applicable to the assignment.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $17.00 - $17.00 Per Hour
