Maintenance (A) School Bus MechanicLocation: Lane Transportation CenterReports To: Supervisor of Transportation and Shop ForemanBasic Function: Responsible for performing skilled repair and maintenance of school buses, trucks, cars and related work as requiredQualifications:Formal trade school or equivalent acceptable to the districtFour years' experience in an automotive mechanic trade, two years of which shall have been at the skilled level working on medium or heavy-duty trucks and school buses. Including diesel repairs, overhaul, and maintenance.Demonstrated ability to perform tasks in their specific craftKnowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems and other related systems that would need repairAbility to follow written and oral instruction and to complete service records and reportsMust have or obtain a CDL "Class B" Commercial Driver's License* and a School Bus Drivers License with "P*","S" and air brake endorsements* to be successfully completed within the probationary period of employmentDuties:Assists other maintenance personnel when requestedEnsure safety of buses worked on for safe transportation of students, drivers, and general publicPerform preventive maintenance on buses and equipment, trucks, plows, skid steer, and tractorsResponds to road service calls for us repairs, accidents and towing recovery, operating safely assessing situations quickly, securing us and assisting driver and supervisor in transfer of students in all weather conditions, day or night, as instructedAnswer spontaneous shop callsOpen and close transportation department morning and nightSalt plow yards with all equipment as needed for snow removal and ice conditionsPrepare all buses for biannual state inspectionRepair/replace radio/pa systemsPerform heavy repairs of engine transmissions, suspension, axle, drive shafts and brake systemsCooperate fully with other Transportation Department employees and other district personnelResponsible for major maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance related to their demonstrated craft skillParticipate in maintenance operations other than their demonstrated skill when neededHandles maintenance requests as assigned by the Supervisor or designee and paperwork involved in completion of assignmentOperates other equipment as required including a school busDemonstrate leadership ability as well as capability to instruct others in their demonstrated craft skillDrive school buses on routes transporting students as required to ensure efficient transportation operations when neededFill def tanksComplete written or electronic maintenance records for all equipmentMay be required to work during emergency operationsSweep/clear debris from shop floorsMinor repairs to fenders or other body partsOther duties as assignedThe statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee in this position.
