Senior Product Design Engineer

Mill is a waste prevention technology company reimagining what it means to eliminate waste, starting with food. We build smart systems and infrastructure for homes, businesses, and municipalities that transform food scraps from landfill-bound waste into valuable resources, including chicken feed. Tens of thousands of Mill’s residential food recyclers are already helping households divert millions of pounds of food scraps every year, paving the way for our upcoming launch of Mill Commercial—the industry’s first end-to-end solution for managing, understanding, and preventing food waste in commercial environments (e.g. grocery, restaurants, food services). At Mill, we are passionate about building easy-to-use, beautifully designed technologies that keep food in the food system and out of landfills.As a member of Mill’s Product Design Engineering team you will be part of a cross functional team to design, validate and ship Mill's hardware products. You will work closely with other members of the PD team as well as cross functional groups including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Product Management and Operations.Objectives of this role:Design mechanical systems to balance complex tradeoffs between cross functional teams including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Product Management and OperationsGenerate detailed CAD models, specifications and documentationPrototype, Test and Analyze component and system designs Validate and system performance and iterate designs to achieve targetsCreate predictive models and correlate with real world performancePerform root cause analysis of performance failures and drive corrective actionsWork directly with the supply chain to ensure parts are properly manufactured and assembled.QualificationsBS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent5+ years experience working in mechanical product design. Consumer Electronics, Home Appliance industries, or camera integration experience is preferredExpertise in CAD modeling, experience with NX is preferred.Detailed knowledge of plastic and metal part manufacturing processesSolid understanding of product design concepts including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Tolerance AnalysisDemonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to find simple solutions to complex problemsA strong desire to work hands-onStrong communication skillsThe estimated base salary range for this position is $180k to $235k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant.
