Position Summary

Unison Software is seeking a Reporting Subject Matter Expert to own the design, development, and delivery of client-facing reports, extracts, and dashboards across the Unison platform ecosystem for federal civilian, defense, and intelligence community customers.

This is a hands-on, largely independent reporting role. Reporting SMEs work directly with clients and delivery teams to gather and track reporting requirements, query and interpret complex relational data structures, and produce accurate, decision-ready reports without requiring day-to-day technical oversight. Success in the role requires strong SQL skills, a solid working knowledge of database structures and table relationships, and the analytical judgment to troubleshoot reporting issues to root cause independently.

Reporting complexity, product line assignment, and depth of independent ownership scale with experience level and are defined in the specific job posting.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather, document, and maintain a clear inventory of client reporting requirements, translating business needs into reportable data specifications

• Design, build, and deliver ad hoc and recurring reports, extracts, and dashboards that meet client operational, financial, and compliance reporting needs

• Write and optimize complex SQL queries against relational databases to retrieve, join, and validate data across multiple tables and sources

• Maintain a working knowledge of underlying database structures, table relationships, and data dictionaries sufficient to independently trace and resolve reporting discrepancies

• Troubleshoot reporting issues end to end, including data accuracy, performance, and formatting problems, and implement durable fixes

• Prioritize and track a queue of reporting requests, communicating status, timelines, and tradeoffs to clients and delivery leadership

• Partner with functional and technical consultants to understand upstream data sources and confirm report logic against business rules

• Create and maintain documentation for report specifications, data sources, calculation logic, and refresh schedules

• Validate report accuracy through peer review, test data, and client sign-off prior to release

• Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, or template recurring report requests to reduce turnaround time

• Operate with minimal day-to-day oversight, escalating genuinely ambiguous requirements or cross-program issues as needed

Qualifications

Required Experience

• Professional experience building, maintaining, or troubleshooting reports, extracts, or dashboards against relational databases, with depth of experience commensurate with the level of the position

• Experience gathering and tracking reporting requirements directly from business or client stakeholders

• Experience supporting enterprise software, ERP, or large-scale system implementations

• Experience working in structured delivery environments (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid)

• Experience supporting software implementations for federal government agencies or government contractors is preferred

Technical Skills and Exposure

• Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, aggregations, and query optimization

• Solid understanding of relational database structures, table relationships, and data models

• Reporting and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Oracle BI, Jasper, or Crystal Reports

• Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and quality-checking techniques

• Familiarity with Oracle databases, PL/SQL, or comparable enterprise database technologies

• Exposure to ETL or data extraction processes sufficient to trace data lineage back to source systems

• Familiarity with data visualization and dashboard design principles

Federal Delivery and Data Environment

Familiarity with one or more of the following is required or strongly preferred, depending on level:

• Federal acquisition, contract, grants, and financial data structures and the systems that produce them

• Interfaces with federal financial, procurement, personnel, and reporting systems

• Handling of sensitive federal data, including personally identifiable information (PII) and controlled unclassified information (CUI)

• Federal security and compliance requirements, including FISMA, authority to operate (ATO), and Section 508 accessibility

• Working with government technical points of contact, information system security officers, and system owners

Core Skills and Abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including with ambiguous or poorly documented data

• Ability to work independently, prioritizing and managing a reporting request queue with minimal supervision

• Clear, concise written and verbal communication, including translating technical data issues for non-technical client stakeholders

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy

• Ability to manage multiple concurrent report requests in a collaborative, client-facing environment

Education and Certifications

• Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Relevant technical certifications in database, reporting, or business intelligence platforms are a plus

Work Location and Travel

Hybrid work. Must work on-site in the customer Rockville office 3 days a week.
