Senior Serviceability Design Engineer - GM Defense

Hybrid Work Arrangement This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to either Warren, Michigan or Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum. The Role Within the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization, the Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations team ensures the service deliverable readiness of every GMD vehicle worldwide. The Serviceability Design Engineer supports both electrical and mechanical components, representing advanced serviceability and re‑manufacturability during the Design Development Process and participating in Product Engineering meetings to identify, address, or escalate service issues. What You’ll Do Lead the identification of Service Parts for the development of a Service Parts BOM. Support the development and validation of service special tools and procedures. Provide support for emerging and quality issues. Offer technical support to teams such as Program Management, Product Engineering, Parts Release, Remanufacturing, Service Training, Warranty Center, Technical Assistance, Assembly Plants, Field Support, and suppliers. Collaborate with other functions and suppliers to implement cost reduction and math improvements while supporting all department programs. Provide technical direction to support personnel as required. Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations. Stay abreast of new technology and driven practices. Perform special assignments as requested. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience in Serviceability Engineering, Field Service, Product Support, or a related field. At least 5 years of professional experience. Practical diagnostic experience and technical/field experience. Ability to read engineering schematics. Familiarity with service information diagnostics and/or authoring. Ability to make decisions autonomously, manage workload, and escale when necessary. Strong analytical skills and expertise in data‑driven problem‑solving. Ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee). Eligible to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Technology or a related discipline. Illustration and graphics development skills. Technical writing background. Dealership technician experience or equivalent military experience. Experience in Serviceability of Design for military applications. Experience working with suppliers. Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance as of the first day of work.
