Location: Milledgeville, GA Shift: Full-Time | Saturday, Sunday & Monday, 7:00 PM7:30 AM

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to perform clinical laboratory testing used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This position is responsible for producing accurate and timely results while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and laboratory efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have strong generalist laboratory experience with Blood Bank experience and be comfortable working independently during an overnight shift.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex clinical laboratory testing on patient specimens.
• Follow established testing procedures, laboratory policies, and quality assurance guidelines.
• Evaluate test results for accuracy and identify results requiring additional investigation or corrective action.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation, testing systems, and technical issues and coordinate service when necessary.
• Perform and document quality control, equipment maintenance, and corrective actions.
• Prepare reagents and maintain adequate supplies for laboratory testing.
• Monitor inventory and help minimize waste and unnecessary departmental expenses.
• Exercise sound clinical judgment when prioritizing testing and resolving technical issues.
• Maintain accurate and timely laboratory documentation.
• Assist with reviewing and revising laboratory procedures and regulatory documentation.
• Maintain compliance with applicable CAP, TJC, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Communicate testing concerns, instrument issues, and other matters affecting patient care between shifts and laboratory leadership.
• Participate in staff meetings, projects, process improvements, and implementation of laboratory changes.
• Participate in competency assessments when qualified.
• Maintain laboratory safety practices when working with infectious materials, chemicals, and other potential hazards.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related qualifying laboratory science required.
• MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification required within one year of hire.
• 5+ years of Generalist laboratory experience preferred.
• 23 years of Blood Bank experience strongly preferred.
• Strong generalist skills across multiple clinical laboratory disciplines.
• Previous second- or third-shift experience highly preferred.
• Must be comfortable working independently and making appropriate technical decisions with limited supervision.
• Strong laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong critical-thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift approximately 2050 pounds as required.
