Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 6 months Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Proficient with IV starts and blood draws. Strong general medicine/internal medicine experience. Tele competency for floating purposes. Description: The unit has 20 beds with a nurse-patient ratio of 1:5. The floor accommodates a variety of patients within the general medicine/internal medicine population. Patient conditions may include cellulitis, abdominal pain, inpatient rehab/SNF transition patients, surgical overflow, direct admits, transplant workups, and some behavioral patients. This is a lower acuity population similar to a regular MedSurg unit in a community setting. RNs will perform the majority of the phlebotomy and IV starts. RNs are expected to titrate drips, including heparin and lasix. Telemetry is not available on the floor; however, RNs must be tele competent for floating purposes. Charge nurses are present on every shift and may take patients depending on census changes. There are nurse aides on the unit with a general ratio of 1:15, decreasing to 1:10 at full capacity. Respiratory therapy is shared between floors; home CPAPs may be set up by RT. Shifts start at 7:00 AM, with huddles beginning at 6:45 AM. RNs are required to work every other weekend and participate in holiday rotations. No call or standby requirements are present. Scrub color is navy, and experience with the EPIC charting system is preferred. Charge experience is preferred but not required. Basic EKG knowledge is essential, and RNs must know how to interpret strips.
