Substation Project Engineer

HIRING: Project Engineer 1 – High Voltage Substations | Atlanta, GA

We're seeking an experienced Project Engineer with a strong background in high-voltage utility substation engineering to join a growing engineering team in Atlanta, GA.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical engineer who enjoys being hands-on with design while also managing projects from planning through construction and closeout.

Location: Atlanta, GA

Work Model: Hybrid – 2 days/week in office; remote flexibility available

Relocation: Available

Travel: Approximately 10–25%

Hours: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility

Overtime: Paid after 40 hours (straight-time rate)

What You'll Do

• Manage high-voltage substation projects from planning through design, permitting, construction support, and closeout
• Oversee and review detailed engineering and design work
• Develop and/or review:
• Single-line diagrams
• Substation physical layouts
• Wiring diagrams
• Schematics
• Engineering calculations and specifications
• Support EPC proposals, estimates, and project controls
• Coordinate with internal engineering teams, contractors, utilities, government agencies, and other stakeholders
• Monitor project budgets, schedules, quality, and regulatory compliance
• Provide construction support and technical guidance throughout project execution
• Maintain project documentation, status reports, and engineering records
• Take ownership of the quality and accuracy of engineering deliverables

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in the electric utility industry
• Significant experience with high-voltage electrical substations
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• Strong understanding of utility engineering and construction standards
• Experience with detailed substation engineering/design
• AutoCAD Electrical experience required
• Experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) is a strong plus
• PE license is a plus
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards including ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, IEEE, NEC, and NESC
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a complex environment
• Strong communication, collaboration, and customer-facing skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a growing team
