Technology provides the foundation for everything we do in the company while driving differentiation through building and leveraging innovative technology and data insights.ResponsibilitiesHow will you make an impact in this role?Manage the planning, coordination, and execution of technology-focused projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and project goals.Lead Agile Release Trains, coordinating with Product Owners, Agile champions, and development teams to support timely and quality delivery of project milestones.Lead Program Increment (PI) Planning meetings with senior leadership, Product Management, and delivery teams to ensure strategic alignment and readiness.Guide Agile Release Train (ART) ceremonies and readiness activities to support preparation and prioritization of features for future PI Planning sessions.Develop risk management plans, conduct regular risk assessments, and implement mitigation strategies to support effective Agile Release Train execution.Analyze and interpret relevant portfolio-, Release Train-, and team-level metrics to provide insights into delivery performance and execution.Facilitate Inspect & Adapt sessions and other retrospective forums to promote continuous learning and improvement across teams.Oversee project documentation, including requirements, specifications, and progress reports, ensuring information is current and maintained in project management tools.Track relevant Objectives and Key Results and Key Performance Indicators (OKRs/KPIs) to measure and report on project performance.Facilitate communication among stakeholders, including project sponsors, colleagues, technology teams, and external partners, to ensure effective information flow and alignment.May or may not manage resource allocation across multiple projects, balancing workload and supporting effective utilization of team capacity.May or may not manage and lead Technology Delivery colleagues, providing leadership, guidance, and coaching to support continuous learning, growth opportunities, inclusivity, and development of best practices.May or may not recruit colleagues with relevant experience and develop, reward, and energize an effective team.Collaborate and co-create effectively with Product and Business teams to align technology initiatives with business objectives.Lead the adoption of AI agent-enabled project delivery practices and workflow automation capabilities to improve planning efficiency, delivery predictability, and operational transparency across projects.Apply judgment and oversight in the use of Agentic AI project reporting, delivery analytics, and technical documentation to ensure quality, accuracy, and alignment with organizational objectives.Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to identify opportunities for embedding AI agent-enabled capabilities into delivery workflows, project governance, and Agile operating practices.QualificationsBachelor's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering) and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferred.Knowledge of Agile, SAFe, and Lean methodologies.Knowledge of technical challenges and systems design, with the ability to facilitate technical discussions and drive solutions.Knowledge of the full life cycle of product development, from concept to delivery, including Test Driven Development.Knowledge of AI agent-enabled project delivery methodologies, workflow automation capabilities, and Agile reporting tools.Knowledge of governance considerations related to Agentic AI project management processes, including validation of AI-generated outputs and human oversight practices.Experience in program delivery or project management, preferably within a technology-focused environment.Experience leading project teams, with a track record of successful project delivery.Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating cross-functional teams.Experience using project management software tools and techniques, such as JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms.Experience writing technical documentation.Experience leading project delivery activities leveraging AI agent-enabled Agile, reporting, or workflow management tools.Experience driving process improvement initiatives involving workflow automation, predictive delivery insights, or Agentic AI operational practicesPreferred Qualifications:Certification in PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner), PgMP (Program Management Professional), or equivalent program management certification is a plus.SAFe Agilist (SA), SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), or other SAFe certification preferred.Experience leading large-scale enterprise technology transformation programs.Experience working within highly regulated and complex technology environments.Experience partnering with Product and Engineering organizations to deliver customer-centric technology solutions.Experience working within or supporting Agile Release Train (ART) organizations and collaborating closely with Release Train Engineers (RTEs).Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.About the TeamAt American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues.
