Mobile Equipment Mechanic / Field Service Mechanic
This role focuses on servicing and repairing industrial truck-mounted equipment and cranes in a field-based environment across western North Dakota and eastern Montana. You work independently, traveling to customer sites, diagnosing hydraulic and electrical issues using laptop-based diagnostics, and performing on-the-spot repairs. The position is 100% service and repair, with no engine, transmission, or major chassis work, and offers a home-based setup with a company work truck.
Responsibilities
- Service and repair industrial truck-mounted equipment and cranes, including bucket trucks and related lifting equipment, in the field.
- Use a laptop and diagnostic software to connect to equipment, run diagnostics, and accurately identify hydraulic and electrical issues.
- Perform on-the-fly repairs on hydraulic systems, including hoses, valves, cylinders, and related components.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, harnesses, connectors, controls, and electronic components.
- Interpret and work from electrical and hydraulic schematics and blueprints to guide troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Carry out field service calls across western North Dakota and eastern Montana, traveling primarily Monday through Friday and staying in hotels as needed.
- Plan and manage weekly service routes in coordination with the team while working independently from a home base.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication techniques to complete repairs and minor modifications.
- Perform crane inspections and basic crane service tasks to ensure equipment operates safely and reliably.
- Work safely in shops, yards, construction sites, and customer locations, including tight or confined areas when necessary.
- Document work performed, parts used, and diagnostic findings clearly and accurately.
- Communicate effectively with customers on-site to explain issues, recommended repairs, and equipment status.
- Maintain the assigned work truck, tools, and equipment in clean, safe, and working condition.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated hydraulic experience working with mobile or industrial equipment.
- Strong electrical experience, including troubleshooting, wiring, and working with harnesses and connectors.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams for hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using laptop-based diagnostic tools to connect to equipment and run diagnostic tests.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience in repair and maintenance of mobile or construction equipment.
- Capability to work independently in the field and make sound decisions while performing on-the-spot repairs.
- Comfort working on feet for an entire shift.
- Ability and willingness to work in tight or confined positions when required.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout western North Dakota and eastern Montana, often Monday through Friday.
- Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate and care for a company work truck.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience servicing cranes, bucket trucks, or similar lifting equipment.
- Background in crane inspection and crane service.
- Experience with pneumatics and related components.
- Basic fabrication skills and minor welding experience (preferred but not required to start).
- Experience in field service roles, traveling to customer sites for repairs.
- Familiarity with construction environments and working around heavy equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in both electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to use a wide range of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Residence in or near the Williston, ND area or western North Dakota is strongly preferred.

Work Environment
The role combines shop-based work with extensive field service in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. You primarily work Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to accommodate family schedules. Most weeks are spent on the road, traveling in a company-provided work truck and staying in hotels while visiting customer sites. The environment includes shops, yards, and construction sites where you work on industrial trucks and cranes using laptops, diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. You frequently stand for long periods, work in tight spaces, and perform physical tasks in a variety of outdoor and indoor conditions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
