Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Neuro ICU position requiring an active IL license and at least 3 years of critical care experience.
Details
Level 1 Trauma Center Neuro ICU setting within an acute care hospital
Patient population includes complex trauma (head, chest, ABD, ortho), stroke with IV tPA/thrombectomy/embolization/aneurysm coiling, adult and pediatric burns (up to 17-20% BSA without respiratory involvement), and general medical/surgical critical care patients
Utilizes CRRT, EVDs, and ICP monitoring
Nurse to patient ratio of 1:2-3
Uses EPIC EMR
12-hour night shifts (7p-730a)
Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday nights)
Every other holiday required
Floating required throughout the hospital (excluding ER and OB), capped at 1:4 ratio if floated to MedSurg
No call or standby requirement
Charge nurse available 24/7 and typically does not take patient assignments
CNAs staffed on the unit, up to 2 per 17 patients
Hospitalist in house 24/7 with eICU support for pulmonary after hours
Central cardiac monitoring with Philips monitors; RNs responsible for reading their own EKG strips
Respiratory therapy manages all vent/CPAP/BiPAP/high-flow equipment on the unit
Requirements
Active IL RN license required
Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
NIHSS certification required; PALS preferred but not required
Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
Comfortable with ventilator management and medication/drip titration
Experience with arterial lines and central lines required
CRRT and EVD/ICP experience preferred
Must be comfortable titrating all common ICU drips
Additional Information
Provide critical care nursing to complex trauma, stroke, burn, and general ICU patients
1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
Any color professional scrub permitted; additional scrubs recommended for burn patient dressing changes
Local candidates welcome to apply
No radius restriction for eligibility, though a reduced local rate applies to clinicians within 50 miles of the facility

Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of facility's drug-free campus policy
