Power System Engineer

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical engineering analysis to support generator interconnection studies and system planning
- Conduct power flow and load flow studies to evaluate feasibility of new generation interconnections
- Analyze simulated and actual system operating results to ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Review interconnection applications for compliance with Planning Guides, Protocols, and technical requirements
- Develop system models, tools, and procedures for power system studies and analysis
- Identify system issues and propose technical solutions for current and future grid reliability
- Track interconnection project milestones from study request through commercial operation
- Communicate technical requirements, study results, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
- Support process improvements related to interconnection workflows, data management, and reporting
- Prepare technical reports documenting analysis, findings, and recommendations
- Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure reliable grid integration of new resources
Skills:
- Strong experience in electrical power system analysis and grid studies
- Hands-on experience with PSS/E for load flow and power system studies
- Understanding of NERC standards, protocols, and planning guidelines
- Experience with transmission system analysis and interconnection studies
- Ability to interpret and analyze complex electrical system data
- Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
- Experience with Python, VBA, SQL, or similar programming/query tools preferred
- Familiarity with tools such as TARA and other power system applications
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional engineering teams
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required
- Less than 1 year to 2+ years of experience in electric utility or power systems industry
- Experience in power system modeling, analysis, or utility interconnection studies preferred
- Familiarity with transmission planning and grid reliability standards
- Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles
