Job Description
This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. What You Will Be Doing Interview clients and witnesses; coordinate witness and expert travel; research experts and arrange for expert services; review police reports, recordings and interviews; obtain copies of audio and video tapes; and subpoena witnesses and records. Contact clients and/or witnesses, conduct research on various issues, access database systems to locate clients, witnesses and victims. Testify in court, assist at evidentiary hearings and trials, prepare demonstrative aides to be used at trial.
Our Organization, Mission, and Culture The mission of the Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) is to provide advocacy to vulnerable Alaskans. The Appeals and Statewide Defense unit of OPA provides legal representation for indigent criminal defendants and civil litigants in a wide range of cases: felony and misdemeanor trials, criminal appeals, post-conviction relief proceedings, juvenile delinquency cases, guardianship proceedings for incapacitated adults, and Child in Need of Aid cases. Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible investigative work experience performing duties such as locating and gathering information, evidence and/or testimony to be used in civil or criminal proceedings, administrative actions, or governmentally regulated activities which included preparing reports in support of attorneys or agencies engaged in administrative adjudication, and/or detecting and verify suspected fraud, licensing violations, and other violations of state law. Definitions:
