Speech Language Pathologist
Implement the special education evaluation process for students referred to special education with speech and language concerns. Coordinate and conduct ARD committee meetings to develop appropriate plans for students. Act as case managers and maintain the eligibility files for students with communication disorders. Provide guidance to ensure compliance with policies established by federal and state law, Commissioner Rules, policies and procedures and local operational guidelines. Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech/communication disorders that interfere with student's ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas license as a Speech Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Speech-Language Pathologists will be required to have or apply for a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number for Medicaid Billing. Ability to use accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions. Ability to apply evaluation results to assist in development of appropriate educational plan. Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, as well as current legal issues. Capability to master technology (email, word processor, eSped) required for administration of duties. Ability to instruct and manage student behavior. Preferred two years Speech-Language Pathology experience. Preferred experience with Frontline/eSped program. Preferred exposure to basic communication signs associated with American Sign Language.
Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Evaluate and report student progress consistent with district expectations. Determine readiness for termination of therapy services. Maintain a therapy schedule in compliance with ARD committee recommendations and, upon notice, can be given to the principal and/or Executive Director of Special Services. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of the students. Serve as the coordinator of the speech/language services for assigned schools. Implements and completes the evaluation process within timelines. Selects and administers formal and informal evaluation to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations. Provide observations, screenings and awareness of speech and language disorders to staff and parents. Collects and organizes relevant evaluation data from student's cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents and outside resource people. Participate in Project Child Find screening. Participate on special assessment teams, as assigned. Interprets evaluation data accurately. Conducts ARD meetings within required timelines. Coordinates appropriate participants for ARD meetings. Addresses required items during ARD meetings. Demonstrates an understanding of legal procedures related to the ARD process. Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures. Maintain an accurate Child Count. Updates school personnel with relevant information regarding federal and state law, Commissioner's Rules, policies and procedures and local operational guidelines in the areas of evaluation, placement and planning for special education services. Assists classroom teachers with development of the IEP. Consults with parents, teachers, administration and other relevant individuals. Develops effective relationships with students, parents and school staff. Demonstrates skill in management of eligibility folders, records and reports. Complies with all district and local campus routines and regulations. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings. Provide guidance and intervention services for students in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process, as appropriate. Maintains a positive working relationship with supervisors. Communicates effectively with colleagues, students and parents. Handles stressful situations in an objective manner. Shares knowledge, skill, and time to assist colleagues and others when requested. Operates computer systems such as email, word processing, Google Docs, eSped.. Serve as the campus case manager for all identified assistive technology cases. Maintain campus assistive technology files. Coordinated with the assistive technology lead on all campus Assistive technology assessment, consultation, implementation, and maintenance issues. Provide campus assistive technology support through consultation, demonstration, and implementation strategies. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment. Maintain current licensure and certification by earning required Continuing Education Units. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Professional Education Code of Ethics. Attends and participates in district/departmental meetings. Conduct staff development training sessions as appropriate (i.e., changes to law, intervention strategies etc.)
May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathologist intern(s), assistant(s), or aide(s). Manages stress in a professional manner. Travels to multiple work locations as assigned. Understands moderate lifting and carrying of computer and test kits may be required. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
