Patient Registrar

Description

The Patient Registrar performs a variety of customer service and routine administrative tasks to provide for efficient and courteous operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include, but not limited to the following)

  • Greets all patients, families and visitors, verifies appointment information, provides directions and responds to inquiries as appropriate
  • Interviews new patients to determine eligibility; adds to data base as appropriate to build patient health record
  • Interviews patient and/or family member to determine primary visit purpose; routes Worker's Compensation patients to appropriate service area
  • Verifies insurance information, eligibility and benefit coverage with parent/guardian to ensure understanding of requirements and/or constraints effecting treatment
  • Reviews patient registration information for updates and/or changes to primary and secondary insurance coverage to ensure accuracy of billing
  • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
  • Daily, prepares charts for appointments, orders medical records, makes copies of material, creates labels/forms and includes proper patient data to provide for efficient patient flow
  • Copies insurance card and attaches to registration documents to ensure accuracy for timely payment of claim
  • Requests tribal enrollment verification to ensure coverage; refers to Eligibility Coordinator as needed
  • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • One year of office experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
