Salary: $61.00 - $79.67 per hour. Placement within the range depends on experience and internal equity. Positions in union agreements follow collective bargaining rules. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 4x10s (day off TBD). Department Overview Opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Cardiac Surgery/Aortic Disease department. The APP will be primarily outpatient but rounds to support the care team. Essential Functions Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities, including diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems. Responsible for health outcomes of an assigned patient population. Consults with collaborating physicians and other health professionals. Develops educational systems for patients, families, and staff. Mentors graduate students in advanced practice and patient care. Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research. Provide direct clinical care to patients. Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, x‑rays, and procedures within clinical privileges. Evaluate patients to determine the need for further health care. Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families. Document all care and education in the medical record. Refer to other disciplines as appropriate. Serve as consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise. Integrate research‑based knowledge and clinical expertise into decision‑making. Maintain a professional image in appearance and presentation. Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community. Maintain certifications and continuing education required for licensure and privileging. Serve as a patient advocate and role model for Patients First. Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate. Develop and conduct teaching strategies for patients and families. Develop and participate in continuing education programs for staff. Serve as a role model and preceptor to students. Provide formal education to internal and external groups relevant to the specialty. Participate in quality improvement or research initiatives for the patient population. Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited nursing school or a master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Acute‑care certification required for APRNs. Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Illinois, or current license as a Physician Assistant in Illinois. Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board, or as a Physician Assistant. Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (as specified by department). Controlled substance license and DEA registration (as specified by department). Minimum of one year of APP experience. Experience in management of aortic disease, surgical and medical.
