Physical Education and Health Teacher

PE / Health TeacherWeston Preparatory Academy is hiring a PE / Health Teacher. Must have teacher certification and endorsement. Become Part of the Weston Family! Weston Preparatory Academy (WPA) is one of the top academic performing schools in Detroit. The staff works in collaborative grade level teams to provide high level instruction and high expectations to our 300, K-8 students. All of our technology rich classrooms include Smartboards, Chromebooks, or Ipads for all students to support instruction. Teachers and students have subscriptions and access to various online learning platforms to support learning 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. WPA is a neighborhood school, located on 10 picturesque acres in a safe, west side Detroit neighborhood. We value the partnerships with our parents, neighborhood and community associations. The staff participates in focused professional development 12 days a year that directly relates to the Weston educational program. Professional development is embedded to support our curriculum in grades K-8, data driven instruction, Restorative Practices and Trauma Informed approaches. In addition, new staff members are assigned a mentor that provides year round support of the school's philosophies and all instructional programs.We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary PE Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for physical education, a strong understanding of child development, and the ability to create a fun and engaging learning environment. The Elementary Gym Teacher will be responsible for promoting physical fitness, motor skills development, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.Responsibilities:Design and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum that meets state standards, addresses various skill levels, and incorporates a variety of activities, including sports, gymnastics, dance, and fitness.Deliver engaging and age-appropriate lessons that encourage student participation, skill development, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, physical skills, fitness levels, overall participation, and presentations.Maintain a safe and organized gym environment by following safety protocols, properly handling equipment, and ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe manner.Educate students on the importance of physical activity, nutrition, and healthy habits, fostering a lifelong appreciation for wellness.Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Education, or a related field.Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for elementary education with an endorsement in physical education.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.Ability to inspire and motivate students to participate in physical activities and develop healthy lifestyles.Company Benefits:Health Insurance: Medical, Vision, & Dental Plans4% 401(k) company contribution3% 401(k) company matchLife, ADD, STD, LTD 100% paid by the employerVoluntary Plans Available
