Care Partners are responsible for meeting the basic needs of patients by providing skilled levels of bedside patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Care Partners also perform clerical duties necessary to the functioning of the nursing unit.

Job responsibilities and requirements include:

General patient care, safety and comfort, vital signs/measurement, mobility and exercise, respiratory care, wound care, bowel and bladder elimination, hygiene, specimen collection, and clerical duties.

The position requires adherence to safety and infection control policies, service excellence, personal accountability, performance improvement, age appropriate care, and specialized care for patients at high risk for injury.

The performance of this function is the reason the job exists, there are limited employees among whom the performance of this function can be distributed, this function occupies a great deal of the employee's time, this function is highly specialized, failure to perform this function may have serious consequences, the function was performed by past employees, and is performed by current employees.

Working conditions include regular exposure to the risk of blood-borne diseases, contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances, exposure to unpleasant elements, subject to trying and unpredictable situations, may perform emergency care, subject to irregular hours, pressure due to multiple competing demands.

Physical requirements include prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients, lifting supplies/equipment, considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting, pushing, pulling 100+ pounds.

The intent of the practice agreement is to ensure that nursing practice at Saint Louis University Hospital sets the benchmark for excellence in service, quality, and people.

Required professional license and/or certifications include Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA). Other resuscitation certifications may be required dependent on department.
