About the Role
We are partnering with a Saint Paul, MN-based industrial automation and technical solutions provider to identify a Senior ADP Payroll Consultant for an immediate, high-impact engagement. Our client is a well-established distributor serving manufacturing, automation, and engineering industries across the Upper Midwest, and they are seeking a seasoned payroll expert to step in and take ownership of their payroll operations during a critical period of process maturity and transformation.
This engagement is initially a 3-month contract, with a strong preference for onsite, full-time support in Saint Paul, MN. Part-time or remote arrangements may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates who can make an immediate impact. The ideal candidate is both a doer and a builder—equally comfortable processing payroll and commissions as they are documenting, mapping, and optimizing workflows for long-term scalability. Stepping into a fast-paced environment with minimal existing documentation, the Senior ADP Payroll Consultant will immediately take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations while simultaneously building the structure, documentation, and processes needed for long-term sustainability. This role offers significant autonomy, visibility, and the opportunity to partner closely with Finance and HR leadership to stabilize and transform payroll operations.
Key responsibilities include:

• Execute end-to-end biweekly payroll processing across 7 states through ADP Workforce Now, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
• Step into current operations with little to no existing documentation and quickly establish operational continuity.
• Process monthly sales commission payroll, including validation, calculations, and reporting.
• Manage and support payroll-related general ledger (GL) integrations, including mapping, reconciliation, and issue resolution.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate payroll postings, account alignment, and month-end close support.
• Identify gaps, risks, and inefficiencies within existing payroll processes.
• Develop comprehensive process documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Lead process mapping initiatives to create clear, scalable workflows.
• Recommend and execute process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Troubleshoot payroll and integration issues and proactively resolve discrepancies.
• Train internal team members and ensure knowledge transfer for long-term sustainability.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

• Recent, hands-on ADP Workforce Now payroll experience in current or most recent role.
• 7+ years of hands-on payroll experience, including deep expertise in ADP Workforce Now.
• Proven experience managing multi-state payroll environments.
• Experience supporting GL integrations, payroll accounting, and reconciliations.
• Strong experience with commission payroll processing, ideally supporting sales teams.
• Ability to hit the ground running in ambiguous, under-documented environments.
• Demonstrated success in process documentation, process mapping, and workflow design.
• Experience identifying and executing process improvements.
• Strong knowledge of payroll compliance (federal, state, and local).
• High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and train HR and Finance stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in high-growth, transitional environments.
• Familiarity with ADP reporting tools and data analysis (Excel, Power BI, etc.).
• Background in audit readiness.
• CPP certification or similar payroll credential.
