Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Plumbing Designer to develop and deliver high-quality plumbing and associated systems for commercial, healthcare and education projects. The role will produce Revit/BIM plumbing models and coordinated construction documentation, perform hydraulic calculations and specifications, and ensure compliance with relevant codes, client standards and fire protection requirements. The Plumbing Designer will collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors and clients throughout design and construction phases, and contribute to continuous professional development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed plumbing system designs, layouts and schematics for new-build and refurbishment projects, with a focus on healthcare and education facilities.
• Produce and maintain coordinated Revit/BIM plumbing models, families and construction documentation (plans, sections, schedules and details).
• Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, drainage layouts and system performance analyses to verify compliance with design criteria and codes.
• Prepare technical specifications, equipment schedules, material take-offs and cost-assist information for procurement and tender packages.
• Coordinate MEP interfaces and integrate fire protection systems with overall building services, liaising with fire engineers as required.
• Review and check drawings and calculations prepared by others to ensure quality, accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Conduct site surveys, inspections and provide support during construction and commissioning to resolve design queries and ensure proper installation.
• Engage with clients, project teams and stakeholders to understand requirements, present design proposals and respond to technical queries.
• Support junior staff through mentoring, drawing review and knowledge sharing and contribute to office standards, templates and Revit content development.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practice, regulations and participate in CPD activities to promote continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Plumbing Design or equivalent qualification.
• 3+ years of proven experience in plumbing design, including work on healthcare and education projects preferred.
• Proficiency in Revit (MEP/BIM) and experience producing coordinated Revit models and construction documentation.
• Strong technical knowledge of plumbing systems, hydraulic calculations, drainage design and relevant codes and standards.
• Experience with fire protection systems and integrating firefighting water supplies and detection interfaces.
• Familiarity with project procurement processes, specifications and tender documentation.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and client-facing skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to professional development; CPD participation expected and CPDT or similar plumbing design certification is desirable.
• Membership or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable) is advantageous.
