Assistant (Direct Support Professional)

L’Arche Greater Washington DC provides housing, support services, belonging, growth and mutual relationships for assistants, friends, volunteers and core members—the adults with intellectual disabilities at the heart of our community. Responsibilities Provide direct support to core members in daily living activities, including personal care, cooking, attending medical appointments and companionship. Participate in shared meals, celebrations, prayer and community traditions. Act with dignity and respect, fostering a relational approach to caregiving. Work reliably and flexibly within the community routine and shared schedules. Assist in planning and implementing individual care plans as required. Qualifications Passion for inclusion and respect for the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities. Openness to building relationships and sharing life in community. Flexibility and reliability in adapting to community routines. Willingness to provide hands‑on support in daily living, including personal care, cooking, medical appointments and companionship. Availability for orientation, shadowing and ongoing mentorship. Benefits offered to assistants include: Competitive Compensation Starting rates at $20.64 per hour.
