The established Eligibility List will remain in effect for one year. Current Vacancy for Immediate Hire: Various School Sites - from 2:00 hours per day - 4:00 hours per day - the eligibility list established will be in effect for up to 1 year and will be used to fill all current and new vacancies during that time period. Application Process: Applicants who successfully meet the employment standards outlined in the Required Qualifications in the job description and the supplemental questionnaire questions in the application will be invited to participate in the testing process. Tentative Testing Schedule for this Recruitment: Written Testing Date: Wednesdays - Walk-in Testing is 10 am to 3:00 pm. at the EL Camino Campus, 320 N J St, Lompoc, CA. Use the double gate on Laurel St. for parking, testing is in Room 20.

Examples of Duties

Under the supervision of the school principal, supervise students on the playground and lunch areas during the noon hour, during breakfast programs, and occasionally before and after school. Incumbents in this classification may also be assigned to crossing guard duty and assist with student supervision at street crossings.

• Supervise cafeterias, lunchrooms, playgrounds, recess duty, restrooms and other areas as assigned by the principal, with particular attention begin given to the health, safety, and conduct of the children involved.
• Assist students to observe lunchtime and playground courtesies and rules of safety.
• Enforces District and school policies and rules.
• Reports special behavior problems to the appropriate staff.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student behavior.
• Provide crossing guard support at assigned intersections.

Other duties may include:

• Participate in District professional development opportunities as required in order to enhance job related skills.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and training equivalent to some experience (paid or volunteer) working with children in an educational or child care setting or any combination of training experience that would likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities may be considered. • Crossing Guard Training

Knowledge of:

• Communicate effectively with administration and students.
• Effectively deal with large groups of students.
• Take notes and write short reports i.e. referrals to office, incident reports.
• Basic safety rules and regulations.
• Basic principles of first aid.
• Emergency assistance procedures.
• Techniques used to motivate students and effectively deal with student needs at various age levels.
• Standards of courtesy to be observed by students.

Ability to:

• Supervise students.
• Learn and apply with good judgment District and school policies and rules related to student behavior and activities.
• Maintain order and discipline among students, utilizing effective and appropriate strategies.
• Understanding and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Be a positive role model to students.
• Handle all matters in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner.
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships

All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the examination process for the position. The examination process may include one or more of the following: written, oral, and performance examination. Candidates must pass all parts of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list. The final score will determine the candidate's rank on the eligibility list. A candidate in the top three ranks (including tie scores) on the eligibility list may be considered for hire; when there are multiple vacancies in the same job classification, additional ranks will be considered. Open and Promotional examinations are open to applicants inside and outside the Lompoc Unified School District. To qualify for the promotional examination, employees must have permanent status in the Lompoc Unified School District as a classified employee. Promotional Only examinations are open to current Lompoc Unified School District classified employees only. For employees to qualify for the promotional examination, they must have permanent status in the District as a classified employee. Dual Certification examinations are open to all applicants, including current Lompoc Unified School District employees and those from the general public.
