Your Role at BHSN
As an Employment Counselor, you'll provide individualized employment services designed to help participants prepare for, obtain, and retain competitive employment. You'll assist with career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, workplace expectations, job coaching, employer engagement, and ongoing support throughout the employment journey.
You'll meet individuals where they are - both literally and figuratively - working in the office and throughout the community to foster independence, build confidence, and promote long-term employment success.
Schedule
Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Flexible hours as needed to meet program needs.
What You'll Do
Provide individualized supported employment services to individuals living with Substance Use Disorder.
Assist participants with career exploration, vocational goal setting, and employment planning.
Develop resumes, prepare participants for interviews, and strengthen workplace readiness and soft skills.
Conduct individualized vocational and community-based assessments to identify employment goals and barriers.
Develop relationships with local employers and identify employment opportunities that align with participants' strengths and interests.
Support participants throughout the job search process, including completing applications, preparing for interviews, and navigating hiring processes.
Provide individualized job coaching and employment supports both in the office and within the community.
Help participants identify barriers to employment and develop strategies to achieve and maintain successful employment.
Build trusting relationships with participants and maintain regular contact to support their ongoing employment goals.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies, grant requirements, and applicable regulations.
Collaborate with clinical providers and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate services and support participant success.
Maintain flexibility in scheduling to meet participant and program needs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
High School Diploma or GED required.
At least two (2) years of experience in mental health, employment services, rehabilitation, substance use disorder services, or a related human services field preferred; OR an Associate degree in a Human Services field or related discipline.
Experience working with individuals living with Substance Use Disorder or co-occurring disorders preferred.
Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation required.
