Cashier Job Description – Joe Patti’s Seafood

Position Summary

A cashier at Joe Patti’s Seafood Company is responsible for providing fast, accurate, and friendly customer service in a high-volume seafood market environment . The role combines payment processing, customer interaction, and maintaining an organized front-of-store area.

Key Responsibilities

• Process transactions * Operate cash register, handle cash/credit/debit payments * Accurately total purchases and give correct change
• Customer service
  • Greet customers and answer basic questions about products
  • Provide a friendly, efficient checkout experience
  • Direct customers to departments (fish line, deli, etc.)
• Maintain front-end area
  • Keep checkout stations clean, stocked, and organized
  • Restock bags, receipt paper, and small items
• Assist with store operations
  • Help manage lines during busy periods
  • Coordinate with seafood counter staff for order pickup
• Follow policies
  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Adhere to company procedures and cash-handling rules

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, especially during weekends and holidays
• Standing for long periods (often full shifts), able to lift ~50 LBs
• High customer traffic (tourist-heavy location)

Steam Window / Food Service Duties

• Take customer orders for steamed seafood (shrimp, crab legs, etc.)
• Communicate orders clearly to kitchen/steam staff
• Package and label hot food items correctly
• Ensure orders are accurate before handing to customers
• Maintain cleanliness of the service window and prep area
