CT Technologist
The CT Technologist operates CT scanners to obtain high-quality diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation. This role requires proficiency in CT imaging, attention to patient safety, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with the healthcare team. The Technologist also supports smooth departmental operations, including documentation, equipment maintenance, and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform CT scans according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Position patients and ensure proper imaging technique to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Administer contrast media safely and accurately following protocols and physician guidance; prepare, identify, and document medications used during procedures.
- Assist physicians with invasive procedures as needed.
- Reconcile patient medications to ensure compatibility with contrast agents.
- Complete scans efficiently, accurately, and within quality control standards.
- Assist co-workers with multi-modality coverage, including IV starts, patient preparation, and computer functions.
- Apply radiation-reducing techniques without compromising image quality.
- Protect patients, self, and staff from radiation exposure; maintain dosimeter usage and compliance.
- Follow infection control protocols and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Maintain patient safety during transport and imaging procedures, monitoring for falls or adverse reactions.
- Respond appropriately in emergencies, including medical, fire, or weather-related incidents.
- Greet patients, verify identity, and collect relevant medical history.
- Explain procedures clearly and answer patient questions.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, co-workers, and healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate records in imaging systems (PACS, RIS, or similar).
- Ensure images are correctly linked to patient records and documentation is complete.
- Support quality assurance and retrospective reviews for training, education, or compliance purposes.
- Maintain knowledge of departmental workflows and stay current with procedural updates.
- Keep imaging rooms and equipment clean, organized, and stocked according to standards.
- Report equipment issues promptly and assist in resolving technical problems.
- Adhere to attendance policies and maintain all required certifications and licensure.
- Assist with workflow improvements and departmental changes as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an ARRT-accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Active CT certification and state licensure as a Radiographer.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of CT experience.
- Experience with Phillips CT scanners and Bracco injector systems.
- Familiarity with Epic, PACS, and McKesson imaging systems.
- Experience performing specialized exams such as Cardiac, TAVR, CTA, Code Stroke, HD, CAP, and Spine.
- Prior experience in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency imaging settings.
