Perianesthesia Nurse 8 hour shifts Monday-Friday; Full or Part-Time opportunities available We will train motivated individuals with a strong work ethic to care for patients in an operating room setting. We offer a great team environment with people who thrive in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center. We provide flexible shifts and part-time or full-time hours. We are staffing positions to cover our hours Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No nights, weekends, or call!

Job Description and Duties:
PreOperative Duties

a) Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel

b) Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care

c) Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice

d) Assists in the inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the preoperative area

e) Maintains order and cleanliness of the preoperative area

f) Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting

g) Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient prior to admission

h) Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities

i) Describes the perioperative experience to the patient/significant other, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, and how the significant other will participate

j) Obtains pertinent patient records prior to patient's arrival for preoperative testing

k) Performs all preoperative testing (i.e., laboratory work, electrocardiogram, x-rays, etc.)

l) Reports all abnormal values to the anesthesiologist/attending surgeon

m) Explains informed consent for surgery, patients' rights/responsibilities, and preoperative/postoperative instructions

n) Obtains necessary signatures

o) Informs patient about routine care and procedures related to the perioperative experience

p) Discusses all findings with the anesthesiologist prior to the anesthesiologist's preoperative evaluation of patient

q) Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality

r) Documents preoperative care according to policy/procedure

s) Ensures that the patient's chart is complete on the day before surgery is scheduled

9. Recovery Duties

a) Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for management of the recovery room

b) Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities

c) Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care

d) Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice

e) Assists in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the postoperative area

f) Maintains order and cleanliness of the postoperative area

g) Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/postanesthesia period

h) Assesses and documents the patient's physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room

i) Documents postanesthesia care and identity of the second person in the recovery room during the patient's recovery fromanesthesia/sedation according to approved policies and procedures

j) Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered

k) Monitors patients and informs surgeon or anesthetist of observed complications

l) Performs thorough postoperative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient

m) Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge


n) Develops a plan of care for the patient based on the assessment data

o) Reviews postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the surgeon with the patient and significant other and documents in the patient's medical record

p) Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home

q) Determines that patient and significant other understand conditions that require immediate care/method to obtain immediate care

r) Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and promotes privacy and dignity

OUR FACILITY

The Surgery Center of Fairbanks opened on November 20, 2010. Since then, the facility has treated thousands of Interior Alaska residents with a wide range of health conditions. We specialize in outpatient surgery, where surgical procedures are performed and patients are allowed to go home the same day. We are the only free-standing fully dedicated outpatient surgical facility in the Fairbanks area. We specialize in patient care using modern technology and digital electronic interfaces. We create an environment where the patient is our number one priority. We are owned and operated by Alaskans and we are your neighbors and friends. We understand the issues that face all Alaskans when they need surgery and we are proud to play a role if they require our services.

The Surgery Center of Fairbanks works with all health government programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Denali Kidcare, TriCare, and the Veterans Administration. We accept all private insurance carriers and we guarantee to work with any patient to minimize the financial strain that some surgical procedures may require.

Most surgical specialties are performed at our facility: urology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, general surgery, ear nose and throat, podiatry, gynecology, chronic pain procedures, and gastroenterology. We have a fully dedicated pediatric procedure room for children to make their experience easier.
