Senior Director, Category General Manager

Position Summary The Walmart Marketplace is a curated community of respected, professional sellers that offer only top-quality, authentic products and best-in-class customer service. The GM of Automotive will be both a strategic and operational leader responsible for driving marketplace category growth and delivering a best-in-class customer experience. You will set the overall business objectives and drive the day-to-day operations for the category to deliver the sales, profit and experience goals. This role will lead a high-performing team of category/account managers and program leads and work extensively with cross‑functional partners to deliver day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives. What you’ll do We’re looking for a strategic operator with a proven automotive track record who thrives in a high‑growth environment. You will: Build and lead a high-performing team of category, account and program managers. Develop category and seller growth strategies, building capabilities within the automotive industry. Use data and insights to make informed and impactful decisions. Drive operational excellence, identifying opportunities for efficiency and improvement. Maintain strong, seller‑obsessed relationships, influencing a portfolio of strategic partners to expand their presence on Walmart.com. Champion the collective success of the team, mentoring and coaching members. Impact Areas Provide strategic leadership and direction; define business objectives to deliver on customer and seller needs. Manage financial performance; set long‑range strategy, deliver annual operating plan and associated KPIs. Develop assortment growth strategies, collaborating with the Acquisition team on new seller BD, catalog growth and strategic partnerships. Lead product and strategic initiatives; launch innovative product features and verticals. Partner with Site Operations and Marketing to create a holistic category marketing plan, driving consideration, traffic and conversion. Own category metrics and dashboards; build a data‑driven culture. Build and maintain a high‑performing, industry‑best team, including recruitment, retention and diversity initiatives. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field (or equivalent experience). 15+ years of related experience in category management, online marketplace, general management or e‑commerce. Minimum 5 years of direct automotive industry experience. 10+ years of experience managing a team and P&L. Analytical and process‑oriented, comfortable making data‑driven decisions. Ability to set clear team objectives and performance measures. Ability to select and develop a team of future leaders. Proven cross‑functional collaboration and willingness to take on responsibilities outside primary role. Assertive, adaptable, and proactive in a fast‑paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Deep knowledge of automotive marketplace dynamics. Track record of scaling seller and product portfolios. Experience driving new marketplace features and verticals. Strong stakeholder influence and partnership skills.
