Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager
The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the company's Environmental, Health & Safety programs across all operations. This individual will partner with leadership to foster a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and implement systems that protect employees, customers, contractors, and the environment. The EHS Manager will provide strategic leadership in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, risk management, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement while supporting the company's long-term growth objectives. The company employs approximately 300 people and operates across crop protection; fertilizer and agricultural inputs manufacturing; chemical manufacturing; animal nutrition; co-manufacturing and co-packaging; and transportation, including a large fleet of DOT-regulated vehicles. This position supports multiple manufacturing, warehouse, and operational facilities located throughout the Pacific Northwest. Regular travel is required to conduct facility audits, provide onsite coaching and training, perform risk assessments, investigate incidents, evaluate compliance, and build strong working relationships with site leadership and employees. This position will leverage and collaborate with companies' existing operations, quality, safety, and leadership teams. The successful candidate will not be expected to build every program independently but will be empowered to strengthen existing processes while helping identify and develop additional resources as the companies' environmental, health, and safety programs continue to grow. Essential Responsibilities Leadership• Develop and lead the company's Environmental, Health & Safety strategy.
• Promote a culture where safety and environmental responsibility are core organizational values.
• Partner with operations and executive leadership to integrate EHS into daily business decisions.
• Coach managers and supervisors on safety leadership and accountability.
• Serve as the primary EHS resource for all company locations by providing consistent leadership, coaching, auditing, and support to ensure standardized Environmental, Health & Safety practices across the organization.
• Partner with existing operations, quality, and leadership teams to build and strengthen the company's EHS culture while identifying opportunities to develop additional personnel and resources as organizational needs evolve. Safety Management
• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations.
• Conduct facility audits and risk assessments.
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Analyze safety metrics and recommend continuous improvements.
• Manage contractor safety programs. Environmental Compliance
• Oversee environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
• Manage hazardous waste and chemical management programs.
• Coordinate environmental reporting and inspections.
• Maintain compliance with air, water, and waste regulations. Industrial Hygiene
• Develop exposure assessment programs.
• Evaluate chemical, physical, and biological workplace hazards.
• Recommend engineering and administrative controls.
• Oversee respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and exposure monitoring programs. Training & Development
• Develop employee safety training programs.
• Ensure regulatory training requirements are met.
• Lead emergency response drills and preparedness activities.
• Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives. Continuous Improvement
• Develop KPIs and monitor EHS performance.
• Lead root cause investigations.
• Identify opportunities to reduce risk and improve operational efficiency.
• Implement best practices and industry-leading EHS programs. Work Environment & Travel
• Position is based at one of the company's primary facilities, with responsibility for supporting operations across Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
• Approximately 10-30% travel is expected, depending on business needs.
• Frequent visits to manufacturing facilities, warehouses, transportation operations, and customer locations will be required.
• Must be willing to travel for onsite coaching, compliance audits, safety observations, incident investigations, employee training, regulatory inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required. Qualifications Education
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Coursework or other formal education in chemistry is preferred.
• Master's degree preferred. Experience
• 7-10+ years of progressive Environmental, Health & Safety experience.
• Experience within chemical manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, mining, transportation, food processing, or other heavy industrial environments preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multi-site EHS programs.
• Experience building and improving safety culture. Preferred Certifications Candidates possessing one or more of the following certifications are strongly preferred:
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) - Board for Global EHS Credentialing
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
• Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
• Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
• Professional Engineer (PE) (Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or Safety disciplines) Desired Knowledge & Skills
• OSHA, EPA, DOT, and environmental regulations
• Risk assessment and hazard analysis
• Industrial hygiene principles
• Chemical safety and hazardous materials management
• Emergency response planning
• Incident investigation and root cause analysis

• Data analysis and performance metrics
