Laboratory Analyst (Microbiology)

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Microbiology) in Long Island City, NY. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Preparation and analysis of microbiological samples (air, water, and bulk materials) for fungi and bacteria
• Classical and advanced methods for microbial and bio-aerosol analysis
• Generate analytical reports and enter data into the LIMS system
• Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
• Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
• Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager

Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Life Science is required, preferably in Biology or Microbiology
• Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely and without restriction or sponsorship
• Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
• Experience with spore traps, direct microscopic exam, other culture-based microbiology, bacteriology, or mycology is a plus
• Ability to work with phase contrast and light microscopes, analytical balances, biological safety cabinets, filtration manifolds, and adhere to sterile techniques and good lab practices
• Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
• Ability to work independently, and as a part of a team, self-motivated, adaptability, and a positive attitude
• Effective time management organizational skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance
• Available shift: Positions is full-time time Sunday to Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Training to start will be Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
