Supervisor, Phlebotomy Supervisor, Phlebotomy at UHealth Laboratories Department oversees daily phlebotomy operations, including scheduling, specimen collection, labeling, processing, delivery, and archiving. The role collaborates with health professionals to ensure accurate blood collection procedures and maintain specimen integrity. Core Job Summary Assumes responsibility for daily supervision of phlebotomy operations and staff, ensuring compliance with procedures and high‑quality service. Core Job Functions Supervises patient phlebotomy using the prescribed technique outlined in the procedure manual. Manages all phlebotomy activities, including training, evaluation, and documentation of staff. Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing laboratory collection, handling, and processing protocols. Maintains, implements, and enforces departmental policies and procedures, participating in performance improvement. Interacts with patients, addressing their age‑specific, physical, and psychosocial needs. Conducts inpatient/CTYU phlebotomy rounds as scheduled. Performs blood collection (venipuncture or fingerstick). Answers questions and resolves problems regarding test requisitions. Logs specimens following standard operating procedures. Files laboratory reports per department protocol. Maintains inventory levels and rotates stock. Keeps laboratory clean, neat, and organized, assists hardware maintenance. Provides support when specimen transport and computer contact systems are down. Attends training courses to maintain competency. Establishes and assesses internal controls and compliance with University policies. Core Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Certification and Licensing: Phlebotomist Certification; BLS certification (AHA). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Management: set performance goals, provide feedback, conduct evaluations, delegate tasks. Training & Development: deliver employee training and motivation to enhance skills. Team Leadership: create and maintain a cohesive, productive team environment. Technical Proficiency: use office software, technology, and relevant computer applications. Communication: strong verbal and written communication skills.
