Clinical Medical Physicist

$195k - $262k
Full-time

The US Oncology Network

Overview

Why This Role

Join a technically advanced, physicist-led radiation oncology practice that combines the pace and collegiality of community practice with the tools and research opportunities usually found only in academic centers.

  • Modern platform, fully automated workflow. Two beam-matched Varian TrueBeam linacs, Eclipse/ARIA, and the complete RadFormation suite - AutoContour, ClearCheck, EZFluence, ClearCalc, QuickCode, and ChartCheck - so your time goes to physics, not clicking.
  • Full-spectrum clinical program. ~65 patients under treatment daily, including SRS (HyperArc), SBRT, IMRT/VMAT, and surface-guided RT. HDR brachytherapy program covering GYN/cervix, skin, and live ultrasound-based prostate HDR. Dedicated CT simulator plus a separate PET/CT unit on site.
  • Theranostics at the leading edge. Active radiopharmaceutical therapy program with Lu-177, with Ac-225 research and next-generation alpha-emitter therapies on the near horizon - a rare opportunity to build expertise in the fastest-growing area of our field.
  • A culture built on safety and quality. ASTRO APEx® accredited for more than a decade and a RO-ILS participant for 8+ years. Collegial, physics-friendly physicians who value and act on physics input.
  • Teaching and research. A collegiate environment supporting research, publication, and clinical education, with plans underway to launch a CAMPEP physics residency program - an opportunity to help build a training program from the ground up.

Real work-life balance. 0.9 FTE with a 4-day work week and full benefits eligibility.

Life in the Twin Cities

Minneapolis-St. Paul consistently ranks among the best U.S. metros for quality of life: big-city amenities - professional sports, a nationally recognized arts and food scene, an international airport hub - at a cost of living dramatically below the coasts. The region offers top-rated public schools, one of the country's largest medical and med-tech employment markets (excellent for dual-career households), and abundant lakes, parks, and trails for four-season outdoor living.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Perform treatment planning oversight, plan review, and independent verification for external beam (SRS/SBRT/IMRT/VMAT/3D) and HDR brachytherapy cases.
  • Deliver physics support for HDR brachytherapy procedures, including GYN, skin, and live ultrasound-based prostate HDR with real-time planning.
  • Support the radiopharmaceutical therapy program, including dosimetry, radiation safety, and program development for current and emerging agents.
  • Execute and continuously improve the machine, patient-specific, and imaging QA program (TG-142/TG-198, TG-218) across linacs, CT, and PET/CT.
  • Participate in chart rounds, peer review, incident learning (RO-ILS), and APEx-aligned quality and safety initiatives.
  • Commission and evaluate new equipment, software, and techniques; contribute to technology assessment and capital planning.
  • Provide clinical instruction and mentorship for radiation therapy staff, dosimetrists, and students; contribute to departmental research projects and to the development of our planned CAMPEP physics residency program as interested.

Compensation & Schedule

  • $195,000-$262,000 annualized (full-time equivalent), prorated for 0.9 FTE; final offer based on experience and certification status.
  • 4-day work week.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement with employer contribution, CME/professional dues allowance, and paid time off.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or related field; graduation from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program and/or residency strongly preferred.
  • ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics preferred; board-eligible candidates actively pursuing certification are encouraged to apply.
  • 3+ years of clinical experience preferred - but we welcome strong recent residency graduates and will invest in your development.
  • Experience with Varian platforms (TrueBeam, Eclipse, ARIA) and brachytherapy is a plus; curiosity and a safety-first mindset are essential.
  • Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Work Environment

This is an on-site clinical role. The position involves routine work with treatment planning and delivery systems, hands-on machine QA (including handling of standard dosimetry equipment and phantoms), and direct participation in patient procedures such as brachytherapy. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.

The US Oncology Network is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status.
