Chick-fil-A Kitchen Shift Leader
This position is a full-time (35-40 hours per week), hourly, non-exempt position. Salary: $24.00 - $27.00, per hour - see below for additional salary and benefits offered for this position. This position requires 100% on-site work at 3181 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Must be 18 years of age or older, authorized to work in the U.S., and able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short and long distances. A qualified candidate will have the ability to speak and understand English. A qualified candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the restaurant industry and a minimum of 1 year of proven management experience.
As a kitchen shift leader, you will join a leadership team that are the influential and culture-bearing people behind the Chick-fil-A brand. Our leadership team works together to serve thousands of guests every day with excellence and care. This position requires a full commitment and effort within our shift operations team. You will ensure consistent compliance by staff from shift to shift through communication, training, and enforcement of the law.
As a kitchen shift leader, you will be responsible for:
- Managing shift operations and logistics within your team
- Completing assigned tasks and reports
- Training and communicating with staff in a professional and effective manner
- Continuous development in personal and team growth
- Preparing, cooking, and assembling food products, raw, cold, and hot items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, catering orders, and takeout meals
- Maintaining a clean and shiny store
- Receiving the truck and maintaining inventory organization when assigned
- Following LEAN processes and procedures for quality control and inventory
- Carrying out food safety and quality measures, including SAFE, Daily Critical, and daily eRQA
- Collaborating with team members and adhering to our mission: Excellence Every Day and Care for All
- Achieving annual and 90-day performance objectives
Qualifications and competencies:
- A qualified candidate must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the U.S.
- A qualified candidate must be able to lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short and long distances.
- A qualified candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the restaurant industry.
- A qualified candidate must have a minimum of 1 year of proven management experience, ideally within the restaurant industry. You should explain your management experience and provide examples of what you have achieved and how you have achieved it within your application cover letter.
- Open availability between Monday and Saturday is expected, and the ability to work at least 35 hours per week for applicants who wish to be considered.
- All leadership positions are expected to maintain open availability between Thursday and Saturday.
- Additional on-the-job training and development will be provided throughout your career with Chick-fil-A Harbor Blvd.
Kitchen shift leader positions are expected to work regular six or eight-hour shifts at various times throughout the day: morning (5:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), afternoon (11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.), or night (3:30 p.m.-12 a.m.), depending on business needs and store performance goals.
A primary candidate will have availability during two, three, or all of these days on a part-time basis regularly and also have open availability during the weekend between Thursday and Saturday.
As a kitchen shift leader, you will focus on the following areas in your daily performance:
1. Culture

- CFA Standards: You will work with Operations Managers and the Director of Operations to ensure that all team members comply with Chick-fil-A Harbor Blvd standards as outlined in the employee manual, our training material, and other company policies and procedures within the company. You must personally represent these standards and make others accountable for them at all times. Excellence is the goal!
- Unity: You will collaborate with Operations Managers and the Director of Operations, and other Shift Leaders to maintain a cohesive and positive experience for the team. All leaders are expected to speak with one voice. You are expected to be a positive and encouraging leader within the leadership team. You must quickly address any negative communication by directing it towards a resolution with the individuals involved. You are not a solo leader. You are part of a unified leadership team that shows the culture of Harbor Blvd.
2. Growth
- You are expected to continuously grow yourself and your team at the same time. Both are necessary as a key leader and vital to the health of the company.
- Growing yourself: There are many ways to do this (books, podcasts, training, mentors, webinars, etc.). Partner with your manager to be guided in the right areas. As a leader, you are helping managers manage the lives of many people. That is a big responsibility. You must be intentional and consistent with your growth. Your team needs you to be a great leader and being a great leader takes a lot of work.
- Team care: It is part of your role to train and encourage others to participate in opportunities for others to grow in their own skills. Coaching, feedback, and accountability are performed throughout the day with the purpose of growing team members to be the best they can be. This must be done because you care about them personally and want them to be their best every day.
- Quarterly performance reviews: You will work with Operations Managers to conduct performance reviews to team members. This is a key development tool for you to use 4 times a year, to set specific goals and provide beneficial feedback. This tool should be taken seriously and given priority in your efforts.
3. Operational Excellence
- Fast service: You are responsible for the punctuality and efficiency of the drive-thru. We strive to serve guests in 3 minutes or less. You are also responsible for quick and memorable experiences. There are many things that must happen in concert to achieve this goal. It is your job to lead your shift team to make this a reality during each shift you oversee.
- Cleanliness: We manage our restaurant and team. It is your job to keep these things clean and in good working order at all times. The drive-thru is the first area our guests see and will speak to the rest of the restaurant and your leadership. Keep it clean!
- Order accuracy: You are responsible for ensuring that all orders taken are 100% accurate.
