Make a positive impact supporting student success as a contracted Sign Language Interpreter. This opportunity is ideal for those with expertise in sign language interpretation who are enthusiastic about working in an educational setting. Collaborate closely with a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) student in a Head Start center, facilitating access to instruction and communication throughout the school day.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (national or state-level)
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Prior experience as an educational interpreter or working with DHH students is highly valued
• Strong professionalism, reliability, and organizational skills
• Ability to foster inclusivity and confidentiality while working one-on-one with students

Position Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into ASL for a DHH student during classes and school activities
• Accurately convey lectures, directions, and discussions between staff, students, and the DHH student
• Support the student’s engagement and independence in both instructional and classroom activities
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other service providers to modify communication based on student needs
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to professional and ethical standards
• Participate in pre-session meetings or training with teachers to prepare for daily assignments

This role offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, totaling 30 hours per week. The position is on-site at a Head Start center, providing the opportunity to work closely with a single student and make a direct difference in their educational experience.
