AMA Certified Medical Assistant

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region, providing compassionate and efficient patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment. As a Medical Assistant, you will support licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers by performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks.

General Summary

This role involves assisting with patient care duties such as taking vital signs, performing EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting patient information accurately and promptly. You will also act as a liaison between patients and providers, managing communications and assisting with medication renewals and authorizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure patient safety by following infection prevention protocols and notifying licensed nurses of any changes in patient condition.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and collect relevant medical histories and chief complaints.
  • Handle phone communications, including relaying messages and assisting with patient inquiries.
  • Administer medications as ordered, perform point-of-care lab testing, and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
  • Maintain exam room supplies, clean and restock areas, and assist with patient education on electronic health record portals.
  • Support orientation and training of new medical assistants and contribute positively to team dynamics.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent work experience. A high school diploma is also necessary.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not mandatory. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, and various movements such as stooping and reaching. Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional challenging interactions may occur.
