(Sr.) Director/ Head of Compensation

About the Role
We are looking for the first leader of compensation at Verkada. In this role you will shape our compensation philosophy, design and deliver global programs, and partner closely with the People, Finance, and Business Operations teams. The position reports to the CFO and works side‑by‑side with the VP of People.
Verkada expects you to be on‑site 5 days a week at our San Mateo, CA office.
What You’ll Do
- Own and refine the global compensation strategy.
- Develop and manage multiple programs – merit cycles, equity refresh, special awards.
- Partner with Finance, People, Recruiters, Hiring Managers, and Executives on pay decisions, compensation process, policies, and job evaluation.
- Build tools and processes to streamline all compensation workflows – from job posting to internal approvals to merit cycles and ongoing equity refresh programs.
- Drive direct impact on a daily basis, balancing short‑term problem solving with long‑term strategic building.
What You Bring
- 7+ years of experience building out compensation and 10+ years total work experience.
- Strong desire to sweat the details and deliver awesome execution.
- Experience in a high growth technology business (pre‑IPO or recently post‑IPO).
- Data‑driven mindset with strong analytical and modeling skills.
- Excellent influence and communication skills – able to build trust quickly with c‑level executives.

Eligibility & Pay
Annual on‑target earnings range for this full‑time position is $275,000 – $400,000 USD . Base compensation is combined with commissions (if applicable) and any equity in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs).
