Learn more about the UNT System and how we live our values at Department Summary The Criminal Justice Program at UNT Dallas prepares students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, and the field of law through an applied curriculum and experiential learning. Graduates leave the program equipped with the requisite knowledge, and skills needed to succeed in a wide variety of criminal justice and social science careers. Position Overview UNT Dallas is bridging the gap between education and workforce readiness through our innovative Classroom to Career initiative. This initiative integrates experiential learning - such as internships, service learning, and project-based collaborations with industry partners - into every student’s academic journey. By emphasizing high-impact practices, we prepare students with both disciplinary expertise and the essential skills employers value most: communication, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership. Our graduates don’t just earn degrees; they launch purposeful, career-ready futures. The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer in the department of Criminal Justice, Sociology, and Emergency Services Administration. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per semester and to assist in the further development of the UNTD criminal justice program. This 9-month appointment begins September 1, 2026, and ends May 31, 2027. Expectations for non-tenure track faculty include excellence in the areas of teaching and service, resulting in teaching four courses (12 hours) in the fall and spring semesters. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching and program development or other duties assigned by the department. Faculty are also expected to participate in department and college meetings and fall and spring commencement ceremonies, and other service activities such as curriculum development, online course development, student recruitment, program assessment, and committee leadership. Minimum Qualification Master’s degree. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field. Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching. Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate criminal justice courses at an institution of higher education. Experience in curriculum development and developing interdisciplinary programs. Demonstrated experience in teaching in an online environment. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong instructional design and course development skills. Ability to facilitate engaging online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient use of educational technology and digital learning tools. Ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments. Ability to assess student learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. Ability to maintain flexible schedule to meet academic demands. Ability to integrate real-world human services experience into classroom instruction. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field. Three plus years working in the criminal justice field. Teaching experience in the learning management system Canvas. Experience with QM online learning requirements. Job Duties Teaching four undergraduate courses per semester. Participating in activities such as student recruitment, program assessment, program development. Participating in department and college meetings. Participating in fall and spring commencement ceremonies. Physical Requirements Communicating with others to exchange information. Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
