Aspiring Quality Assurance Inspector Apprenticeship The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity through our IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Program for a Quality Assurance Inspector Apprenticeship in the Puget Sound region in Washington State. Training Program This comprehensive 4‑year training program consists of 8,000 hours of paid on‑the‑job training and essential classroom education. The program begins with a 20% probationary period, after which you will attend school for at least 144 unpaid hours per year and will earn a higher wage step for every 1,000 hours of recorded training. Upon graduation you will be placed in the target job at the maximum rate and receive a journey‑worker certificate. Role Overview As an Inspector for Quality Assurance Apprentice, you will learn to conduct thorough inspections of tooling and machined parts, verify compliance with stringent specifications, collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams, perform audits, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Key Tasks Inspect all types of tooling from initial fabrication to final assembly of major assembly jigs, and various parts from vendors in receiving. Inspect patterns, dies, jigs, templates, press plates, master models and gauges for conformance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and 3‑D measurement systems. Use Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and other tools for audits and compliance checks. Perform in‑process inspections, audits, and check orders on production parts, and verify FAA conformities and first article inspections (FAI). Pass visual acuity and color perception eye examination tests. Target Job Responsibilities Obtain daily work assignments and review work orders and blueprints to determine required tasks. Inspect cleaning, sealant application, protective coatings, and leak‑detection coatings of integral fuel cells. Perform and witness leak checks, determining the source of leaks and evaluating the extent of repairs required. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to evaluate and coordinate improvements in build processes and defect reduction initiatives. Initiate and document nonconforming materials or assemblies according to specifications and procedures. Conduct audits and surveillance of manufacturing and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance. Use precision measuring instruments and shop mathematics to verify that all parts and assemblies meet quality requirements. Review manufacturing plans and documentation for completeness and compliance, identifying discrepancies. Inspect mockups of engineering design changes to ensure adherence to specifications. Perform line checks to investigate whether rejectable conditions exist on other assemblies or aircraft. Indicate Quality Assurance acceptance by stamping the appropriate paperwork and processing completed records. Review previously accepted systems, customer requirements, or FAA conformities to determine if re‑inspection is required. Work with engineering and the FAA on red‑label equipment to ensure proper segregation from production parts. Document discrepancies and report them to the appropriate personnel for resolution. Assist in the training and instruction of lower‑grade inspectors, providing guidance as needed. Physical Demands and Potential Hazards Lifting weights ranging from 10–15 lbs to 15–35 lbs. Performing reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting movements. Working in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants. Operating in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards. Adapting to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions. Utilizing personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties. Position Details This position is 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Qualifications Experience applying math skills such as algebra, geometry, and/or trigonometry. Experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings. Experience working with precision measuring tools. Experience with composites. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. Education & Experience High School Graduate or equivalent with proof of successful completion. Other Relevant Information This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists (IAM‑751) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Benefits & Pay Pay: $44.53 per hour, with potential to earn up to $57.60 per hour in accordance with the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
